in MA state its a secoundary seat belt law, meaning cops cant just pull you over and give you a ticket for no seat belt. Unless your speeding and dont have a seat belt on. I've been watching TONS, and i mean TONS of dash cam video crashes. And it seems that the more people that fly out of the window during an impact are safer than stuck inside and crushed. So seat belts sometimes save lives and sometimes dont. However, I do buckle up for long drives or high way driving. But regular city short stops driving, I dont, especially if i need to move around a lot to see from all angles.... this video proves the seatbelt- Luckiest Truck Driver in Russia - YouTube just have a pillow or blanket with you and fly out of the windsheild and you will be fine. |

Here are some photos of the remnants of a car I was driving when we had a run-in with a cow on a dark highway. http://daveandyvonne.com/Images/Winnie_1_LR.jpg http://daveandyvonne.com/Images/Winnie_2_LR.jpg http://daveandyvonne.com/Images/Winnie_4_LR.jpg http://daveandyvonne.com/Images/Winnie_3_LR.jpg A pillow or blanket wouldn't have helped us in that one, but the seatbelts sure did. We walked away from that, a bit bruised to be sure... First impact was upside down on the front-right corner; if we hadn't been belted in, we would've been ejected, and I guarantee you we wouldn't have landed on our feet, we would've been greasy, bloody smears on the pavement. BTW, it was me, my then-very pregnant wife, and our then-18-month-old daughter in the car. The daughter is now 25, in her second year of med school, and the son my wife was carrying is now 23, and just as much a BMW nut as me, as are their two younger brothers. :D (If you've got a little time to burn, the whole story is here.) By the way, I did a little snow sliding in the X5 last night as well; we got a fresh load of about 6 inches yesterday, and it was a blast! The rear-drive e32 was even better, with the Blizzaks and the front wheels not trying to drag me around too! |
I am not russian Sasha, but I have been around long enough to see too many dead bodies of people (nicaragua, costa rica and panama) who were too macho to use the belts...
Alex, you probably did not read the previous thread about your use of the seatbelts, or, if you did read it, you have learned nothing... no sense of beating dead horse, hopefully you will not need to test your theory that you learned from watching the drunk russians on youtube... |
It is hard to believe that some drivers still think they are better off being ejected from a crashing vehicle. That is just stupid.

Lol. Xoutpost.ru. Yea everyone is macho till they rearrange their sun visor and windshield with their face. Some people think the windshield is easy to ho through. Yea, ignorance is bliss.

not wearing a seat belt because the law says you don't have to? YOLO!

I wasn't originally going to come into this thread (not worth my time), but when I read this:

1. anyone noticed the solid left turn signal in the beginning of the video? 2. what song is that? |
As much as I disagree with the no seatbelt thing (I always wear mine), if he doesn't want to wear it, so be it. It's his decision.
^^ not sure what the song is, but it's annoying as hell. :) |

We all should care, that's the thing. When he dies in an X5 then all of our insurance rates go up. Same story with motorcycle riders not wearing helmets.
The only time not to wear a seatbelt is when you are driving over an iced lake or river. Don't forget to roll your window down too. Strap up, please, it's the right thing to do. |

This is supposed to be an X5 forum. Who cares if he wears a belt or not. Your slating an active fellow forum member because you dont agree with his views regardless of whether they are flawed or not.
What is up with all of you. Why dont you concern yourself more with the gun laws and keeping your own kids safe! |
What would you know about gun laws?

we are trying to save one man at a time... it is strange, that Alex has gone silent - I hope he did not test his pillow/blanket theory...
As a matter of fact, about 20 minutes ago I saw a young guy driving a chevy "somethingsmall", with no belt on, and judging by his Adidas sport getup, he is definetely Russian - only russians wear Adidas in public, outside of a gym... That is "BRATKI" mentality... he was leaning so close to the steering wheel, that i was wondering if he will have a chance to grab a pillow on his way out through the windshield... lol... |
Quote:

spirited driving calls for a seatbelt... we already argued this argument with Alex before... he did not learn from that, it is his life school - we can't graduate it for him... I just hope that his denial of the experience of so many before him will not cost him dearly... there was some saying about, that smart learn from his mistakes and wise learns from mistakes of others... something to that effect...

funny how much russian is included in this thread, dash cam (iphone in one hand) (electronic music) (reckless driving) = russian! I have not tested the pillow theory nor will i in the future. driving is serious. I learned my lesson back when i just got my license and my first car was a twin turbo 2.8 fwd volvo. to much power to handle. always buckled up. the X is slower and I have more brain now. I really do put the seat belt on 90% of the time, A bit of trolling in the beggining because i spend to much time on bimmerforums.. -theyre all kids. I find the DSC function scary to keep off. I recently started driving more aggressive on the pedal. -saves mpg. but if you forget about ice, the back will spin. I was turining onto the road and my back started spining unexpectidly and I just had enough time to react and straighten the vehicle before an impact with a light pole. and than my friend looks at me and goes wow nice drift! i tell him never ever ever drive like that, it was unexpected. stay safe people. I had enough fun. time to get serious. Happy New Years everyone! Greetings from western Mass. |

Quote:
hill climbing with no dsc sounds risky. stock 20"? 2nd is the best gear to use on snow. I heard those v10 touregs do good. air ride is nice to have. |

He wasn't so much lucky for getting out of the cab of the tow truck in time, as he was unlucky for selecting an incompetent driver to steer the towed truck. Guess that guy rode it down the hill. Hope he had his seatbelt on. Or maybe he was thrown clear halfway down, clutching his pillow and blanket.
|
in these conditions it is obvious that the tow truck driver anticipated such a turn of the events and was ready to jump out the truck - during the Leningrad siege in WWII, the russian drivers were taking the goods into the city via the Road of Life, across the frozen Ladoga lake - and the they lost a lot of trucks... the drivers drove with their doors open, so to escape from the sinking truck in time... not all of them were lucky, but that is a known technique...
I am surprised they used a soft "rope" and not a towbar - maybe it is allowed in Norway |

I don't agree - there are plenty of russian BMW sites out there and most of them are very lethargic... and the ones that see any kind of traffic are very mean - you ask somebody a question, and get a runaround or plain out laughs, such, i had to figure it out on my on, you go and figure it out on your own, there are no freebies here...
very typical russian mentality, if I am not getting ahead, i am not going to let anyone else to get ahead of me... 70 years of Soviet style socilaism had gotten better of the nation... |
Quote:
and hmmm, that sounds like Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum - Powered by vBulletin and just like any nation has its good people and bad people. looks like you figured out the dark secret of russians. So terminator...what do you do for a living? American Spy in Russia? |

i did not just figure out the dark secrets of the russians, I can also drink some of them under the table... lol... sprucing the posts with russian is cool, gives the other folks something to wonder about, as long as the things are kept kosher and nice... sometimes i am wondering when i see some tagalog, or portugese on this site... makes me try the google translate...
Spy??? c'mon, do you think russians will allow a spy into their country?... or, keep one within their borders for too long? wait... they did kick me out... hmmm... i think i am so much deep undercover, that even i am not briefed on my purpose!!!! |

So true man, and after 70 years or so overseas we are starting to adopt that mentality in this country now e.g. if the rich, the 1%, etc dont pay more of their fair share to help me get ahead then i'm going to complain about my government not doing enough for me. typical karl marx making the proletariat rebel against the bourgeoise. what was the old phrase? "work will set you free" or something like that, Idk my father used to tell me it in Czech (he is from former Czechoslovakia) Na zdravi! Keep in mind I am not one party politically, when I started voting I was registered Repub. but both major parties disgust me today. what was the old soviet phrase? "work will set you free" or something like that |
well, i believe in flat tax system - i'll give the gov-t x.xx% and at that point, i don'y want to be bothered anymore... just set the rate at 30%, or 40%, and never, ever, ever come back to increase it!!! so, if i make $100, tskr your $40, if i make $1000, take your $400 - but no other taxes, no sales tax, no local tax, no state tax, no personal property tax, no real estate tax... nothing... deal with the 40% you are taking... baecause, when they break the taxes between so many entities, people lose track of the money - we are effectively paying close to 50% (or at least, it feels that way!!!), and getting gov-t that is about to default!!!
oh, and another thing - this nation is approaching the Soviet goal of equality from a different angle, and, as a matter of fact, has advanced much further than the Soviet ever did!!! and it is not about the money... it is everything else - the political correctness being one of the major ones... |
Quote:
even though, it cost me much less to keep it clean abroad - i had the car detailed and waxed weekly in Costa Rica, cost me about $12-15 US dollars... Washing and cleaning the car in Nicaragua ran me about $2 US dollars and in Panama was about $10 for a wash and clean... All by hand... Moscow was about $10 but it was machine wash... and yet, it looks the cleanest in the US, where I wash it once every 2-3 months!!! :nanana: |
Quote:
so true man, progressive tax system is so ridiculous it boggles my mind. Tell me what percentage I owe across the board, make it the same for all regardless of income level, and you'd be surprised at how much easier "tax season" is. And you're so right, with an Eastern European background I see it so much today, you cannot say anything without ridicule for fear of offense, even if there is no outcry to offend someone! Keeps the peoples voices "equal" in that regard, even if we have "free speech".... Before I get OT and me and Terminator start talking former Soviet bloc reconstruction, carry on... |
Quote:
work will set you free? Are you out of your mind? that sounds like communist propaganda. russians have a saying... work is unlike a wolf wont run into the woods. (robota ne volk, v les ne ubizhit) |

it was part of prison system, that slogan was hanging in the prisons (geared mostly towards criminal ones, the political ones did not buy that $hit), meaning that the hard labor will set your mind (and body!!! hahaha) free (from the prison)... this mentality was present not only in Russia (see chain gangs in the other countries)... supposedly, Arizona still has it... anyone from AZ who can confirm/deny? |
here is a joke in russian -
******** tourists are visiting the hell and see two big pots with boiling water hanging over fire pits with sinners inside... one pot has bunch of devil assistants around it, with pitchforks and the other pot has none... Naturally, a question, Why all of you are at the one pot and none at the other? oh, that is because this pot has bunch of Jews (russian jokes a lot of times are antisemitic, but not this one), and once we turn our backs to the pot, they jump one on the edge of pot and he helps the rest out... What about the other pot? oh, that one has Russians, they are good boys... as soon as one of them tries to escape, the other ones drag him back - "you are not better than the rest of us!! stay back!!!" |
Ahahaha, russians lol
that's russian humour. |
How do you say "In Before The Lock" in Russian?

here we go...
in before the lock - кто успел, тот и съел (кто не успел, тот опоздал) as a matter of fact, the thread really has gone off on a tangent... lol... we are not talking about the snow performance, nor chewing Alex for the seat belt anymore... went on talking about the russian mentality... no fun... lol... so, locking it will make sense... |

I just didnt let them through and they kept honking and flipping me off. hey great drving school. wish i went there too. new york drivers...well the majority of them |

Oh and food for thought, I was reading an article recently and they said you are more likely to strike up a conversation and get a potential date with someone at a supermarket than say a coffee shop or bar, because its less pressure environment or something lol. Oh and Terminator great Russian joke btw, I lol'ed reading it, thanks for the clarification on Soviet prison propoganda, I'm a bit dusty on my hammer and sickle knowledge since I graduated college. |
