NEWB Questions ... iPod & Phone Functionality on NO NAV WITH DSP

I just bought my little brother a 2001 X5 4.4i. He has an M Coupe but due to its size he can't daily it all the time.

The X5 has the standard radio without Navigation but it does have DSP.

I am looking for the best way to equip the car with iPod and Phone functionality. He has an iPhone 4S and doesn't care if he has to plug it but wants to be able to speak on the phone when necessary and listen to his music of course. If Bluetooth is necessary to get the phone functionality that's fine. I'd like the multi-function buttons to control the music too.

What is the best method to get this to work? I was looking at the DICE Mediabridge. It requires me to get the additional DSP harness which brings the grand total to about $360 before shipping.

It seems a bit expensive but I don't know much about integration to the E53. I have the E70 in my sig and luckily chose all the options so I don't have to worry about an aftermarket solution.

I'd really appreciate any help.

Any help? I'd like to order soon, just want to make sure there isn't another product I should consider.

Yea to with Dice. 2001 is too old. The Bluetooth module until end of 2004 is a total fail as it only has BMW assist, I know retarded. You can get the aux cable for the music, and that is super cheap, like $20 from dealer. But if you want Bluetooth, go with dice, and you get the music for free.

2001 is very old, and it's rare you see one both on forums and in general. I agree with the last post, dice is the way to go for ipod intergration but it is pricey. only other option(that i know of) is aftermarket stereo. For the price you get what you're looking for and possibly a few other features depending on which one you get.

Thanks for the heads up guys. My understanding was that the 01 didn't have an AUX in back. I didn't pull out the HU yet but I'm already bracing for it. Since I am going to pay for this mod I'm thinking to just get the Simplicity kit from BSW to let him listen to music and that's it lol. Its $189 inc DSP adapter before shipping. Seems expensive to add the Bluetooth.

you'll learn as time goes on that the words "BMW" and "expensive" seem to be like best friends

I happen to have a 2000 bmw x5 4.4 and you can't tell it's that old, but you are right they are rare to see. I also happen to have a dice media bridge installed on mine with dsp and it works great. it was installed when I bought it so I'm still trying to figure out the Bluetooth with my iPhone 4S. but music functionality is great. it works with all of the steering wheel controls etc. I will keep you posted as I keep playing with it

lol trust me I know. After having a few BMWs you just instantly learn. I'm just being a cheap bastard since the car is not for me lol.

+1 on the mediabridge. I've used it now on both my 46 and now the 53. On the 53 I am not using the phone BT, but do stream music over BT from from iphone 4s. i use my blackberry with the factory BT for phone since its only work people who ever seem to call me when I am in the car.
