FYI -- Castrol Full Synthetic BOGO Free Deal
Just went to purchase some oil for an oil change on the X5 and found that Advance Auto Parts has a buy one get one free deal going on their Castrol Edge synthetic oils. Normally $8.99 to $9.59 a quart, half price. Screaming deal if there ever was one.
Unfortunately, it's an in-store pickup deal only; they won't ship oil. But if you've got an Advance Auto close by, don't pass up this deal. I'm stocking up; I just set aside enough quarts for four changes. Woot! |
You use Edge 5w-40? That is a pretty hot deal, I'd be tempted if I did more than 1 oil change per year.
I actually am using Shella Rotella T6 5w-40 with great results so far, after seeing previous posting of negative Mobil 1 experience on our engines I stopped with 0w-40 after almost 10 years of use on previous Volkswagens. Although I never had a problem with the oil to be honest |
The previous owner used 5W-30 synthetic, and that's what the dealer recommended for our area/climate. I've heard others here mention Castrol synthetic also. Looks like I ought to do some research on oil. Hmmm...

I am also using the T6 on my e36. I couldnt do it on the e53. not yet anyways. so far so good on the 36, but I only have a couple of hundred miles on it from my use. We will see how it does in the spring as I dont plan on changing the oil when I fire it back up. |
Thanks for sharing!

Not to start another which oil is the best/which oil sucks thread... Fwiw, I have used M1 5W-30 in our 10 1/2 yr old VetteVert, since day one, and M1 0W-40 in our 11 1/2 yr old X for the past 6+ years; neither have hiccuped once engine-wise, and neither show any oil based malady. |

I will see if I can find - the issues are with M5X engines and mostly oil consumption and noise. |
thanks for sharing. just bought 24 bottles of the 5w 30 castrol edge syntetic.
thats 3 oil changes |
Whoa, awesome deal. Thanks for posting. Just got 20 quarts.

sorry to scare you mD, i'm going to correct my post. I should say that my searching skills are not great, I just remember reading posts through the last couple years about some guys having bad luck with m1. Maybe i scared myself since I used to use it religiously, although I never had a problem with it! And you are the testament with 11.5 years on your truck and she is solid as ever, so in all honesty, my comments were unfounded. I still will look to see if I can find the postings where m1 0w-40 was giving a guy problems as per his mechanic. |
