Brake Line size
 

I searched but couldn't find exactly what I needed. I have the typical leaky brake line just as it goes from the firewall to the underside. I have not removed anything yet. Can anybody tell me what size brake line the X5 uses? I want to buy a cpl feet of line and my fittings before hand. Thanks for any assistance.

There are two type of fitting for brake line standard and metric. Just fixed the brake line on my Ford Ranger and it used standard fittings. German cars probably take metric fittings.

So you need to replace the brake PIPE (i.e. the hard pipe that comes off the booster/ABS module)?

No he is better off splicing in a new section. He won't be able to route the new line without serious disassembly. Lots of people have done this. Take it to a shop, have the flare it up for you.

If you want to do yourself, you can, I just don't remember the line thickness. I've seen people post about doing it themselves. Very common on all BMW in the snow belt.

I could see the rears being problematic, especially if you don't have access to a hoist....but the fronts don't look like they'd be that daunting of a task? The 2 mains off the master cylinder look easy enough; the intermediate front pipes as well....

Personally im not a fan of splicing in new sections. It just adds more pieces to corrode down the road.

I agree. I have a feeling the fronts are a pain in the ass too.

Everyone should drop those panels under the car once in a while and clean leaves and crap. That shit holds moisture against the lines, causing the to rot out.

i have all the tools, the flare kit and everything that's no issue. I am def splicing in a new piece. lol I was just trying to get some parts before I cut into it.
