Need HID ballast..Options?

Hi Guys,

My right XENON light is gone. After I changed the bulb, I realized the ballast is gone since there still is no light.

What are my options other than the obvious $400 new OEM? I see many different used ones on eBay for around $80. Also, I see some others on ddmtuning for like $20 each. I am assuming there is no way to fix this thing (or is there)..

Please let me know..

Cheers,

Ozzie

If cost is the issue, then I would just try and get a used one to replace it. Get the part number from your ballast and try and get the same one. If not, get a comparable one (look on realoem for part numbers).

I think those ballasts are simple RR items and don't need to be coded/programmed.

If you need a hella ballast, I've got 2 from my truck (w/ igniters) i just yanked....both in fine working order. Just cover shipping and they're yours.

The morimoto 3five 35 watt ballasts from the retrofitsource.com are Top notch units as well.

Do you still have these ballasts???? I will pay shipping plus some if you can tell me that they still work and have no issues with them.

Thanks,
Andrew

I can vouch for X5SND his stuff is what it says it is, he only removed them because the facelift "ignitor on bulb" setup with the ballast wouldn't work when he did the retrofit of the EvoX-R projectors.

Also in case the OP is still looking for replacement ballasts, the pre-facelifts use Hella Gen 3 ballasts, whereas the facelifts are Hella Gen IV with ignitor on back of bulb, I know the ballasts may physically work but don't know if anyone has done it since the equipment is different.

That's good to know, I just hope he still has them!

Ebay, they're like $15

Dang they're $15 on ebay now? Got one there last year and spent $80!

Yup they didnt need coding, plugs right in (after removing the whole front bumper and pulling the headlight assembly and mounting them on the bottom of the assembly, ugh).

X5SND, you mentioned the Morimotos, will these work as a replacement in the OEM set up? As I understand the Morimotos are a ballast/igniter unit and OEM has separate igniter and ballast units? I asked this on retrofitsource and did not get a clear answer.

No need to pull the bumper or even the headlights to get to the ballasts. They sit in a nice little pocket just under the headlight. I'm 6'4" and if I can fit my fat hands back there, so should most.
