anyone had success adding tranny oil through cooling line
I changed and check the tranny oil per procedure. But i did not put in as much as i recover. Want to put the same amount in.
So has anyone been successful putting tranny oil through the coolant line. I would think you have to disconnect it and connect a tubing to it and let the oil drip in from a high point. Anyone done this? |
Wait, what? If you followed the procedure then that is how much should be in the tranny. Are you sure it wasn't overfilled before?

Others will chime in but IMO if you followed the correct procedure I would leave it alone. These machines have the tolerances of a wife who's PMSing - crying one minute and mad as hell the next if everything is not just right.

How much more tranny fluid do YOU think it need? How do you come up with that amount?
If you followed proper procedure then you had enough fluid in there. You worry about not putting enough in, but you shoud worry about putting too much in also. Why dont you lift and level the car, remove fill plug, run it through the gear, make sure the fluid is within 30C-55C, then pump in some fluid. If it drips back out after you remove the pump tube, wait at least 60 seconds (per DISv44) before replacing the fill plug. Then you should be done. |

I check the oil 30 deg c. I run it through the gears before checking. the oil drips out I cannot put any more in. The cars is running of course. the only thing I haven't tried is to have it in gear when i chech the oil. But having it in gear to check the tranny oil is dangerious.
So i guess i must be at the right oil level. |
Why worry about the trans when you will either have to replace the timing chain guides or intermediate levers before the trans craps out. Both of these will be a deal breaker in my book. You will spend more money fixing your X then what the X is worth.
Drive it, sell it or trade it and move on. |

I was able to add more oil to the tranny by pumping it though the cooling line.
Background I changed the tranny oil years ago on a 2005 4.4i but was not able to add back the amount of oil I took out (I measure it) I was about 1/2 to 3/4 quart short. It was hard shifting at cold from 1 to 2 and suspect not enough oil in the tyranny. You can search my previous threads. Using a hand gear oil pump I was able to pump tranny oil into the transmission through the tranny oil cooler line next to the radiator. I have to disconnect the oil cooling line to the cooler first of course. And the hard shifting went away did this a few years ago. But I don't much so it take time for me to make sure the problem is solved. Hope this help someone. |
