So I need a new rear diff

Checked my e53 3.0d into an indy this week to diagnose vibration and noise especially when accelerating. To make a long story short, I now need a new differential.

Anyone know who is the OEM supplier? ECS has them new for around 1600 USD...ouch!

I've never heard of that one... Sure it is not the shaft?

The right side shaft popped out from the diff doing about 30km/h around a corner.
The shop said this was caused when i "roughed up" the suspension in changing the control arm and bushing. (a job i did myself to correct rear inner tyre wear earlier that day) ...they popped it back in.

But, i was told the vibration and crunching noise which existed prior to that suspension refresh is coming from the diff.

Oil was changed just over two years ago with redline 75w90 and the unit was still full of it.

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and store it home until I get the new diff shipped. I may open the old one up and i'll definitely be posting pics. ...not happy at all about this one

Yuck. I thought I had this problem with vibration on accel... Ended up being transfer case.

Maybe find used part or go to tranny place and have them rebuild it

What symptoms were you having? These are costly parts to make a mis-diagnosis here...

If the casings are still good, why not rebuild it? A reputable tranny shop should have no problem doing so.

Vibration in the floor... More pronounced accelerating up hills. Only happened when the car was warm.

Yes the casing is good. I can't seem to locate the internals to purchase online.

Ok cool. Thanks!

I get vibration at weird noise at almost any speed from idle go up to about 80. If I try to go WOT, the vibration is too excessive. Seats, floor vibrate...

I'm sure the diagnosis you received is correct. I thought mine was the rear diff for a while. Hope it all works out!
