Transmission adaptation

Hello, do you think it wold be better to clear your transmission adaptation after changing you transmission oil and filter, or would it cause more issues?.

Yes you should because the new oil will create a different coefficient of friction.
To clear, use the Inpas or GT1 tool, not the 'pedal to the floor' trick.

When I changed the oil in mine (3 consecutives oil change on 3 weeks period), I reset the adaptation with Inpa each time.

Thank you, I have GT1 but I wanted some other opinion on it just to be sure.

Ditto what Turbo Bimmer said. See the "note" in the BMW info below about when to reset tranny adaptations.

And you can also see in the info below that the "driver influenced" AGS adaptations (the "trick")...is bogus in that those adaptations ARE NOT STORED in the TCM (see text underlined in the yellow highlight). The "trick" is not really a trick at all but just indicates to the TCM that the driver is aggressive (and the adaptive sport mode is selected)...which would automatically take place by the driver actually driving aggressively. If the driver of the car at each initial start-up has "granny-toe" (very conservative driver)...then the extreme economy or normal economy adaptive program will automatically be selected again within minutes...regardless of performing "the trick".

Individual DRIVING STYLE is NOT stored...but starts anew upon each start up...thus allowing the cars driving style to actually ADAPT to any driver that is behind the wheel without having to "relearn" a new driver over a longer period of time. ;)

Great info, I did not change any clutches or solenoid, only oil and filter.

In this instance, I don't think it would hurt since you have fresh oil & filter. :)

You have to know what changes you want with your car, and maybe tell the guys, model, year, also what level of computer knowledge you have because it takes a little know how to install and configure some of the programs.

I have a 04 X5 4.8is I would like to do the transmission adaptions i would also like to be able to read codes and modules. I do a lot of automotive work and i know how to fix cars but I don't know what software i need. I do know how to rip it, burn it and I have read that this installation is a little more complex. I'm not sure what windows version works best. I have used Vagcom in the past on windows 98 but it would not work on windows vista.
