DISA Valve bad???
 

I had "service engine soon" light on so had it diagnosed at a shop ( Not a BMW indie) standard shop. They gave me a list of stuff I needed Crack Case Valve,Breather hose,Vacuum hose,Thermostat,Intake Elbow Boot etc....

Question 1: I had my DISA Valve (Intake runner valve) replaced 2-3 years ago, How would it be bad already? I pulled it off and seemed to be sturdy and the butterfly valve was engaging from what I saw. How do you reallly know when its bad?

Question 2: I can not find the location of the crank case valve. Anyone know??

Does your engine making any noise? If so unplug the harness from DISA valve if the noise goes away then you have dead DISA valve.

No It was running rough, But when I replaced the intake boot it had a huge hole it, so that fixed the rough idle, but I dont hear any abnormal sounds from the DISA area at all.

What version of E53 are we talking about here?
I think it's a 3.0 since you mention DISA. Help others to help you, OP. Put information in your signature so you don't have to repeat it. See my signature for example.

The intake boot should be it. You definitely had a vacuum leak (as you found). If it's now idling fine, you should be good to go.

A SES light will not indicate directly that you need to replace a defective DISA Valve, it will only indicate that you have a Lean Condition or a Misfire(s). You will still have to determine what is causing the problem.

Its 2003 3.0L m54 motor

Well I know that.... My question was more about how long do they usual last since I had it replaced 40,000 miles ago and when I pulled it out it was opening up by hand like its suppose to.

The intake boot was the vacuum leak problem for the rough idle. I guess I should not take my car to a generic mechanic shop. My bad for not coming here first for info.
