Blower Motor Replacement

Does anyone have access to the number of hours needed, (Book Rate) to change out a heater blower?

Thanks

Naz24 01-28-2013 12:45 PM

I think it's 6 hours. Just had this done...

Naz24 01-28-2013 12:46 PM

Go to ICS performance in Stamford. I believe they charged about 8-900 for the replacement. And they cleaned the car and engine!!

Ricky Bobby 01-28-2013 12:53 PM

isnt that the job where the entire interior dash has to be removed down to the metal?

Naz24 01-28-2013 01:04 PM

^yes. It sucks.

Skyline 01-28-2013 02:42 PM

Well, mine still works, but it is starting to squeak when it gets really cold out. Kind of comes and goes.

TiAgX5 01-28-2013 02:48 PM

Only sucks because it's time consuming, this job is not difficult at all.

My sampler fan has been squeaking during really cold weather for the past 2 yrs. Many owners confuse the sampler fan issue with a blower fan issue, there's a DIY for sampler fan lubrication.

pezho405 01-28-2013 02:58 PM

Ive done this many times i can do the whole job in under 3

Excuse my ignorance...but what is a sampler fan?

Can you point me in the direction of that DIY?

Thanks

Skyline, sampler fan sits behind the small vent on the face of the HVAC control. It is on the left side, You will notice a regular collection of dust on the opening where that small fan "samples" the air for temp and particulates.

SlickGT1 01-28-2013 03:57 PM

Yup take out your climate control, and clean out that little sampler fan. Re grease it, and put back in.

Naz24 01-28-2013 03:58 PM

Good info here... I may do this

SlickGT1 01-28-2013 04:00 PM

Thanks guys!!!

The blower motor is one gig I was happy to get under warranty many many moons ago.....Not one I would look forward to doing anytime. The underside of the dash has got to be my least favorite area of the X to work in.....nicely littered with sharp edges.

The sampler fan DIY is simple, would start there. If it turns out the be the blower motor it would not hurt to clean/lube the sampler.

... a squeak when the blower is running means tearing the dashboard apart. :(

Interesting that the cars with the IHKA HVAC controls have a fan specific to sampling air; the IHKR cars have a vacuum hose routed into the cabin that pulls air into a sensor under the dash near the driver's door, just like the older cars.

Mine squeaked for two years whenever it got cold outside. Now it doesn't anymore. No changes. No fixes. Just no noise.

Probably because it finally broke. Just like the black tape that people put over a CEL so they don't need to look at it.

blktoptrvl 01-08-2014 12:06 AM

Meant as a joke? I can't tell. But no, it is not broken. Still performs well and heats the car as it always did.

Why it suddenly stopped squealing, I can't say. But like my panoramic roof that was jammed for about six months then started working again, I really dont care too much why, just glad it does.

Mine has been squeaking for the past 6 months...hope that it's not the beginning of a new blower motor replacement :(
