You're more than welcome to. I'm about 20 minutes south of Charlotte, NC. I tallied it up one day not too long ago and came out to around ~$6k.

Filter housing is not "recommended," just a common place for oil leaks and when my useless indy replaced the gasket he screwed it up and I had to have a new one. Filter housing was $394, with labor $810.

EDIT: Whoa whoa whoa...I just got finished reading your PS on your post. I really, really hope you didn't do the filter housing on account of me. I was just chiming in with my service history for the last 40k miles. The water pump (if it was original) was probably a good idea. They used a plastic impeller originally that was switched to metal later on. The plastic impeller was prone to failure.

Hey thanks for the reply. And my indy apparently didnt take out the vanos line from the bottom with two washers. I have no idea how they changed the ccv. Oil everywhere. But no more yellow gunk.
And nope but I just might need to replace the housing as it still leaks just a bit.

Now I have the complete service records for the X and am still perplexed about a few things. The dealer really didn't follow the maintenance schedule very well.

So when I bought it, it had 105K on the dial... Looking at the service records, it was in at 92K, 99K, 101K, and 104K. What I don't get, never during that point was it suggested the 100K be done.

So as far as I am concerned, I need plugs, water pump, thermo, etc...

This should be fun.

Ah dealers these days. Some people are hard to work with at dealerships, they have no idea and it's funny when you need to argue with them about parts, than ask what software are they one looking it up and say ohhh...

for the plugs its good preventative maintenance. New plugs save on gas..?
water pump- just got mine.
Thermo- mine is working but i'll still replace it..
good luck. better keep up with maintenance before it bites you

I think it is important to realize that there is no 100k service on the BMW schedule. The published service schedule which was current when the E53 was sold has no additional scheduled items, just Inspection 1 at 90k and oil service at 105k.

What is being discussed in this thread are suggested items based on various poster's personal opinions. Some of them are probably a good idea. A good dealer should be able to have a conversation about what specific items you might want done. But if they try and tell customers that they need a 100k service, most owners would point out that there is no such thing.

someone once told me that there was a law in Germany that cars can run only 14 years or 100,000 miles. I don't know how to true this, that German engineers would design cars for their roads with those restrictions.

So sad part is I picked up my X from shop and noticed leaks and bolts not tightened and a few things not right. It sucks paying and having to redo many things. Found a leak in my auxiliary water pump. Pretty bad, someone didn't plug it in all the way...

I wouldn't expect a country that measures distance in KM to have a law referencing 100,000 miles. Sounds like nonsense.

Is the shop that let you down the official dealer, your former independent shop, or your new low cost independent shop?
