Locked my key in the trunk...
So today after a 3 hour long drive I began to take my suitcases out of the trunk of my car, however being the attentive person that I am I closed the trunk lid with the keys still inside and all of the door locked. My closest spare key is 3 hours away, I've done some research on the forum and apparently I can get into my car if I remove the trim around the license plate lights and pull a lever? However I'm not very clear on how to do it without risking breaking the trim. Therefore can anyone give me more information on how to properly do this?
Thanks, Elvis |
We have trunks in our X5's? What about opening the front door and crawling over the rear seats? Are you sure this is the right forum?

Okay smart one, I meant the rear deck lid. And all of my doors are locked because I used the remote only to open the rear deck lid, and therefore after shutting it all the doors are locked with my keys inside of it.

this is tough one... do you have a AAA? maybe they can help?
|
Well from what I have researched it seems like most locksmiths either won't touch my car because its a BMW, or if they do then I risk the chance of damaging something while they try to open the door. The only other option would be breaking a window but I really do not want to do that.

There are four screws below the trim that must be removed in order to take the trim off. I believe they are TORX screws. There is no lever to release the trunk, only a microswitch that perhaps if you know the circuit you can short out to release the latch.
Should have released all the doors instead of just the tailgate with the remote. |
Coat hanger, try to press unlock button on front door.

Oh trust me I have learned my lesson! But thanks for the info, I'll try to poke around it to see if I can get anything to happen. Thank you again.

Only way it to call AAA and have then hit the remote locking switch in the middle of the console. The door fits tight to the jamb, so they will use and airbag to bring the door out a little bit. From there they can get a rod in there and hit the button.
I wouldn't short the switch because you run the risk of shorting something else out. |
After two hours and realizing that I luckily had left my sunroof cracked and then proceeding to push it of the tracks I was finally able to open my passenger door with a wire hanger. At least I'm glad that my car is very hard to break in to. Haha
