post CV BOOT replacement jobs
Hello, Ok bit of a no brainer so to speak but had my cv boot replaced a while back, and noticed I have uneven tire wear on that side tire specifically the outer edge is wearing more, is it safe to conclude that replacing the boot and all the hammering involved in removing the shaft etc has thrown my alignment out?
Should ideally get an alignment done I guess but tires are on the way out so maybe will wait a bit longer and hope I don’t cause more issues driving around like this.... So get alignment done after and work on cv related items? |
Depending on what of the multiple procedures that can be used to do this, were used, parts can be removed or loosened that can effect alignment. Some procedures have the potential to effect things less than others. I would think if the hub were not removed from the hub, nor the ball joint from the hub , and merely if the control arm(s) were removed from the frame and subsequently re-torqued using the correct procedure, the alignment could be likely little effected.

Stevekat thanks, ok so the rotors were removed, the the 'chopstick' undone left hanging out of the way , as well as the strut bolt removed to allow the hub assembly hanging, the only things actually physically removed was the outer cv joint and the cv joint was then put back on and everything else, guess will do no harm to get it aligned

When I replaced my entire axle shaft (on both sides), I didn't notice an alignment issue afterwards. I have outside wear as well but I think the wearing on the ourside is normal and a product of not being able to rotate my tires - I have the stag setup - I think 255 up front and 285 rears. Obviously getting an alignment doesn't hurt.
