battery dead, door carrier broken, locked out
 

Gents I'm looking for some help here. Recent snow storm caused my handle to freeze up. when i pulled on it the door carrier broke (Ive replaced this before so I'm familiar with this). I was leaving for vacation 2 days later and didnt get to fix it. So today i get back from vacation and go to unlock my car and get in from passenger side to open drive side and truck chirps "weirdly" and locks all the doors. and now it doesn't make any sounds. so im assuming my battery died.I can manually unlock the driver door but cant open from outside because of carrier. so i need some help to...

1. open hood from outside so i can jump car?

2. "jump" from starter cable enough to unlock doors (is this even possible? starter accessible?)

3. use screwdriver etc to get door carrier to open?

I have also read there is a "secret" way to get in but it can only be told through PM. I would greatly appreciate that info if available too. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Call AAA they can get one of those ballons they shove in the door and inflate enoigh to stick a stick inside and pull the handle

Here's the secret to unlocking the door without a key, but you must have a battery that can electrically unlock the doors.

If the battery is dead, you can jack up the car and attach a 12 volt battery to the starter terminal and the chassis ground. That should provide enough energy to unlock the doors.

Well I had a friend who had a big easy so he came and opened my drivers door for me. Jumped the car and let it run for an hour. I turned it off, closed the door and walked away. 2 hours later i went out to my car and the damn key fob wouldnt work to get in. I had to call my friend and have him pop the lock again. So now I'm guessing my key fob battery is dead?
So my question is, is there a way to ensure it is you key fob? I mean if the battery is dead would the transponder still work and let you start the car? Is it normal for the key fob to stop working after the cars battery dies? If anybody can think of anything that it might be let me know. Thanks

A dead key battery has no affect on its ability to start the car. EWS & FZV are complete independent systems...as well as the 3rd feature of the key DWA.

EWS - immobilizing system
FZV - central locking system
DWA - anti-theft alarm siren system

Did you check the 2nd time to see if the CAR'S battery was dead again? You can try to reinitialize your remote keys to lock/unlock & arm/disarm the car...but again if the problem is the car won't start...it's your car battery that's the problem, not the key's battery.

If possible I would leave at least one door unlocked until you get the driver's handle fixed. It's the only MANUAL way into your vehicle when there's no electrical power.

You should not use the alternator to recharge a BATTERY THAT IS SO DEAD THAT IT COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS. You would have been better off connecting it to a charger or maintainer and charging it overnight. Alternator are not designed to charge a dead battery. Don't believe me here's a link from a battery manufacturer regarding charging a dead battery.

This. Step 1 open doors. Step 2 replace battery. On a BMW if your battery doesn't last 5-7 days without starting the car it needs to be replaced. If there is some battery, you could try holding down the unlock button or turning the key to unlock to roll down the window.

my Battery dies too on my x5, i have not driven her since i got my black 4.8is....i try to click remote....no clicks...so i knew battery dead..due to my motion sensor and alarm...and key hole cylinder cant be access due to someone try to drill through it before and try to steal it...so i cemented that one hole..lol...i tried with hanger wire first but knowing bmw their Door Handles inside cabin are one stiff F*kers.....my hanger just kept swinging around..nothing to grab on...had to go to home depot and buy an aluminum flat rod so i can push down on the handle to create a gap for hanger to grab and you pull it 2x...1x to unlock the door and 1x more to open the door....boom!...done!...had to use my "hidden" skill way back in high school..lol....

just found out cant tap into anything once door is lock and battery dead...just here are some pics

good thing it wasn't double locked... or, was it?
