how long should a 3.0 engine run for before kicking the bucket in terms of milage? for example i hear most toyotas run for 300,000 miles . any ideas

300k on a BMW is realistic...I have seen several BMW's with over 300k and a few over 400k. Maintenance is key although when it come to the 3.0, that is a motor you do not want to run hot. If you ever see your temp gauge reach a click past 3/4, shut it off before it reaches the red.

I think the BMW engines are real good, and should last you 300k miles. All the other components will probably fail before then, so unless you can DIY, be careful of all the other costs also.
