Bmw lpg with heater blowing hot and cold
Hi
I have a 2003 4.4 x5 with an LPG conversion. The problem is the heater blows hot and then cold and then hot again as I am driving along. It normally gets warmer as the revs get higher, but lately just seems to change heat for no reaon. I have had a new water heater valve fitted and do not know where to go next... Any ideas? Andy |
Have you checked the engine thermostat? The gauge is not very reliable as it is controlled by the computer. Also could it be air in the cooling system?
Cheers, |
Is there a way to check the thermostat... I dont think any air is in the system, but after reading several posts it seems to take a few times to clear air, i can only say that none is coming from bleed screw.

The best way to check is monitoring the engine coolant temperature. Some scanners/software can do it and I think you may be able to do it from the cluster if you unlock it. (Try a quick search for that one.)
I have a connection with Leicester University among other things. |
Thanks for that Zulu, hope your memories of Leicester are good ones...
I have managed to get into the cluster and the temperature seems to reach about 95c and hovver around there, does that mean anything? Andy |
This might help. I found it online many years ago.

still having problems with heater fan.. heat comes out of vents when driving normally but when I put the fan on it blows warm when driving but then goes cool when slowing down, but if the fan is off then it still comes warm through the vents. i have had a new water valve from BMW and a FSR that was after market, could it be a faulty FSR? It does not blow much until it is on 100% full anyway... not sure if there is a possibility that I have a bad one.. Been in the garage for a few days and he cannot find the problem. Help please...

Non OEM FSR is always a suspect for fan problems, even when new. I still suspect air in the system. I would have a BMW specialist check everything in the cooling/heating system.
