Panorama Roof Track Repair
Has anyone successfully done a plastic track replacement on the panorama roof? Mine are worn per BMW and the only solution I can find in forum is to disable the rear most glass panel. My wife loves the functionality of the roof so that is not going to work for me. It's $1,800 to have dealer do it so I would rather do it myself. I am a good mechanic but have not been too good at repairing other sunroofs. Any advise, even sending me to dealer, would be appreciated.

I just disabled the rear panel after it was stuck open for several months.. All that panel does is pivot up and down to vent... I permanently closed it (it no longer pivots up) but the main panel still retains all its functionality....
Loosing the pivoting up and down of that 2nd panel vs. $2000 repair was a no brainer for me... If you go the disable route the repair takes less than 5 minutes... Rob |
i bought a rebult kit for 300$ CAN, from the dealership, it was in stock
i got a guy to rebuild it for 700$ with a years warenty took him 1 day to rebuild it im pretty sure its not hard but very time consuming the dealer will not rebuild it, they will bullshyt u and tell u u need a whole new unit--->5600$~ |
Gurjit- That is a great suggestion. Did some research and ECS has OEM part number 54107227894 for $123.55. Will do a write up on installation; probably not until spring. If anyone who has done it has any pointers it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Thom |

I've got a very rattly pano roof and so I need to see what needs to be fixed, but I'm like you, the back pannel does nothing for me and it only causes the main window to bind up when opening I find and thats whats caused my pano roof to now be rattly i bet, so onec I fix it, I want to disable that back window sheet from moving again. |
With the main panel in the closed position with both panels vented open go ahead and open the sunshade all the way.. Then climb in the back seat and look at the middle of the 2nd smaller panel on either side (driver and passenger sides of the car).. You will see a single torx screw on each side.. Unscrew both of those screws .. Those screws hold the panel guide in the open or vented position. Now get out of the car and give the panel a firm push downward.. It will "pop" loose and close down.. That's it.. The entire sunroof should now be fully functional minus the ability for the 2nd panel to vent back open.. I took the time to really clean the entire sunroof area, greased the tracks and sprayed some wd-40 onto a rag and wiped down the areas that snug up to each other when opening or closing.. Mine is working great now..

edit: I did remove the 2 screws and it works flawlessly now adn only took 2 minutes to modify/solve the "popping on open" issue. NOW to find out why the main glass sheet rattles when closed... |
oh if you figure out the rattle please pass it on.
