Torque Converter Fluid Cap.
Pulling front plate off to do diffy fluid change. While in there, how much fluid is the the TC. For those that have done a fluid change in the Torque Converter , 4 or 5 bottles ?
________ Update. I just ordered 5...to be on the safe side. |
Not clear what you are asking about.
The torque converter fluid can not be changed by itself, it is a common circuit with the transmission. You drain and refill the transmission, 4 or 5 quarts, and that gets about half of it (as the torque converter doesn't drain when the transmission drains). But the transmission isn't near the front differential. |
Sorry, I thought I was clear...
I wanted to know for those that have drain the tc, how much fluid came out of the drain bolt... I plan to do get the X up in the air, full ATF pan drop (filter and fluid) but ALSO plan to drop the front plate and change the Torque Converter fluid as well - since I was pulling the plate to change the front differential fluids.. I have done fluid changes on the ATF and I know it's about 6 quarts shy on a pan drop. In doing the math, I'm figurered 4 quarts out of the torque converter, but just ordered a extra bottle just to have, so I would not come up short. ------ While typing this, I just looked at pics. I dont think there is a drain bolt on the Torque Converter... |
You can drain the torque converter , if you start the engine.

You can try and get more out by running the engine, but I have never been a fan of running things without a supply of lubricating oil. |
There is no problem if for brief moments.

I would rather do drain and refill couple times than draining the TC without ATF in the tranny (you won't get all of them out anyway.)

There is no drain on the torque converter.
You can access the front differential by removing the front plate. |
