How can I play MP3 CDs on a my stock MK4 navi?
If someone knows exactly what I need to do, please explain rather than redirect me to another thread. I have been reading up on this and don't have a clear answer. My head unit has the latest firmware/software (v32) with the 3D Navi. My CD changer is the original from 2003. My understanding is that my 2003 MK4 is capable of playing MP3 CDs but that my changer is not. Do I need to swap out the changer with a newer part to get this functionality to work?
Also, my system has a hard time playing CDRs. I have tried burning CDs on my computer (regular CD format, not MP3). The unit takes a while but eventually plays the CD, but the sound is just crackling to the beat. Any help with this is appreciated! |
I have the CP600 instead of the CD changer. Works perfect.

you need newer CD changer - the changers have their firmware too but not user upgradeable... if you are looking for MP3 player, and consider buying a newer CD changer the CP600 could be a good alternative - you will lose the CD ability but pick up MP3 with SD cards... about the same cost to buy a changer vs the SD player...

To get all funtions of mp3 you need mk4 (with newest version), PI-Changer and the newest Software in your BM54 radio, too.
Buying the CP600BMW is not the cheapest idea, but the best... |
For that kind of price (300ish) you might want to try a GROM audio (check them on eBay for best price). It has a model that does bluetooth (which can also play music from your phone), connect an ipod or plays from a usb stick. You can load way more mp3-s on a USB stick that on 6 CD-s. Plus it would be easier to change/add music, not to mention it can add bluetooth to the car. It is about 140 and then 40 more for the bluetooth cable. It also looks cheaper than Dice.
I am doing the cheap way - AUX cable/connector and add a Bluetooth w A2DP adapter (Belkin AirCast). Cable - if you do it yourself - is about 20 (including the soldering iron...) and Belkin is 52. I am planning eventually on buying a replacement head unit from China - not the Dynavin but something non-Android which I saw on ebay for about 500 (still thinking about this one as I am concerned with the return process...). |

Is this compatible with the DSP system? |

Very Interesting. Everything has a limitation or drawback. Aside from
the 32GB limitation what are the drawback? Where can it be located in the USA? Are the hardware installation brackets provided? Quote:

Looks like it's installed in the same location as the CD changer, using the connectors that normally goes to the cd changer.
Here's a video of the install in an E39IT CP600BMW installation - YouTube |
