E55-R Shroud was attached with a couple of drops of super glue.

top = stock xenon + shroud
bottom = FX-R + E55-R shroud

How are the clearances between the front of the e55 shroud and the back of the stationary front shroud (back of angel eye really)? Is there any noticeable gap increase with the e55, vs factory?

The e55 shroud is a tight fit, i remember having to trim a little off to mount it deeper on the projector. if anything i think it looks better than stock. The stock one had gaps between it and the angel eyes.

I used a heat gun and a few small flat head screw drivers to open the headlights. If i ever dreamt of doing it again i'ld just use a dremel.

Heres a question, are the LED angel eye rings really worth the extra 100 bucks over their CCFL counterparts? I see CCFLs on ebay for 50 bucks all day but you have to go to Bimmian or Umnitza for the LED versions.

If I'm contemplating opening these lights up and doing a head on retrofit you better believe I am going to put angel eyes in as well.

IMO the only rings worth their weight are the ones I'm using from TRS...they're brighter than any other out their and have a nice aluminum backing. The down side however is that the white rings appear yellow when off (due to the yellow phosphorus coating, so they need a bit of thinking to hid them) and then the price---as they are probably one of the more expensive options.

Edit: I just read your pm about the ring sizes....email Matt, the owner as I know trs on occasion can get them in custom sizes (and colors). The rings are bigger than the facelift ones?! I would have never called that one...

Yeah I wouldn't have guessed it either but all the listings I am finding on ebay are showing 130mm and 160mm, I'll have to do some more digging on this forum to find out. The rings they sell are amazing, You're right I would have a tough time hiding their phosphorus coating though.

I would consider CCFL as I haven't heard of much trouble with them for the most part, but would rather LED for longevity purposes. I'll email Matt what he thinks, as well as what type of shroud I should be shopping for, and obviously what his take on the opening process should be since Zach gave me his take earlier today.

TRS according to their video on baking headlights recommends 285 for 23 minutes for permaseals! 270 for 7 minutes once you have butyl for sealing, so much easier!

I was just checking out the shrouds TRS has to offer... I think for the sake of (relatively) ease of installation and clean lines, you'd be best to stick to the E-55, Iris or either of the E-46 shrouds.

The other option that Ill throw out there is this: If you could figure out a way to put the Panamera shroud over your projectors, you could hide a XbA ring behind it and use just the outer sockets as your DRL....the highbeams reflectors would remain as is. It wouldn't have the traditional "4-ring" BMW look, but still think it would look great!
