Trans. Failsafe, engine. Failsafe OUT THE BLUE

Yesterday I parked the car (2006 x5 4.8is Dinan stage II with 50k on the odo) in the driveway, detailed it and when I went to start it .... Nothing! All the clusters are working all lights are on just nothing! Turn the key and nothing.

It has given NO previous warning from an engine or transmission stand point.

It needs to be noted that just the day before and for e firt time the suspension self leveling warning came on but went away. I have brand new front airbags.

I just replaced my battery as the old one tested as "dead" yellow light and confirm by the autozone people as only putting out barely 11 volts.

Does the code need to be cleared before the car can start again ?

Any ideas what to try next ?

Thanks

you just replaced the battery - was the battery terminals tightened properly? was the new battery charged up before the install?

just because it is a new battery, it means nothing - it still can be defective right off the shelf, i had that happened to my E39, ran for a couple of weeks and then died... the autozone or whatever the chain was, confirmed the new battery dead beyond repair, and i got a new one...

check the battery connections, and check the battery itself...

Connectors tight with some connection grease and all that. and yeah the battery checked out fine at the store I made sure of that.

if it is not battery, it could be whole bunch of other things... lets see what the other folks have to say...

what is the "surface" voltage of your current battery? do you have a meter to check the voltage?

Had the same problem!. verified its not the key by getting a new key and calibrating ews system in DIS and inpa...

happend to be the starter connection wires loose from the firewall.

Not that either. Tried all my keys.

Try with the tranny in neutral. Maybe the park/neutral safety switch is broke.

Do you even hear the fuel pump go on?

Yup. All seems fine from an electrical stand point.

Were you listening to the radio in the car and had the doors opened? You might have drained the battery.

Or

If you can determine if you are getting voltage to the starter solenoid, then your starter is DEAD.
