i got a 2006 4.8iS, 62K miles, $25K out the doors with tax tags and whatever - i just had a credit union check for $25K flat and not a penny more to offer... dealer had to work with it (the asking price was $27K + tax + fees)... i was about to walk off but the dealer already saw the check in my hands that i waived in front of him...

I would always recommeded a PPI.
If you need the room, go for it. E39 is more nimble and of course better mpg. My wife drive the E53 and it's also the family car of choice. The E39 is my DD.

bmw_jeff_X5 04-17-2013 12:50 PM

PPI is scheduled in about an hour for the 3.0.

bmw_jeff_X5 04-17-2013 06:24 PM

Love the PPI.....mechanically sound vehicle.....but a smokers car!!.....even though Prestige BMW told me it wasn't!! So basically $125 for something I should have been told up front! I think I am having second thoughts about getting the V8.....yikes.

At Prestige I hope they aren't trying to pull the wool over your eyes with representing the car, my father in law was roommates with the owner of the entire Prestige Auto Group all through college, he's bought nothing but Prestige vehicles as long as I've known him and they have always taken care of him.

Was it pretty apparent it was a smokers vehicle? If thats the car you want I would just ask for them to get it detailed as a smokers vehicle, disinfect the HVAC etc and you shouldn't have problems. Obviously have them take some more $$$ off the price too!

i actually just went from a 2002 540i w/M-Sport package. black ext, black int, black wheels... it was my batmobile. had a BADASS sound system and everything

now i just got a 2004 X5 that i'm working on getting up to par :D

Salesperson took a pole 3 against 1 it was a non-smoker. I never saw the car in person. The PPI guy said there were 3 burns on the carpet below the drivers seat!! The lighter in front was replaced. The rear lighter had burn marks in it.

Small world, I know Joe D too, good guy. GM at his MB, Lotus, Land Rover dealership in Paramus is a TOTAL dusche, at least back in the mid '90s. Been on his yacht many times in the '90s.

Yah Dockery is cool, my FIL always tells me about the yacht! lol

I have yet to meet the guy or see the yacht but my FIL always has nothing but good things to say, I can say that the staff at the Toyota dealer (my wife and MIL bought cars there recently) and the BMW dealer for my MIL's previous X3 have been tip top, really took care of us all well.

My father in law is always telling me to call Prestige BMW when I need something for my X but for the most part everything I need isn't dealer necessary, I'm not going to call the Prestige parts dept and demand a discount because of my family's friendship with Joe D, etc.

That's how it went for me too, wanted a manual trans X when I started looking but the 4.4's 50% additional torque over the 3.0 hooked me hard.

bmw_jeff_X5 04-19-2013 09:36 AM

Is it normal to have a non-matching wheel for the spare? Im not up on the wheel types yet but the spare is the standard 3.0 17" wheel from 2006. The wheels on the X5 are the standard 18" on the 4.4.

This is normal. The wheel/tire combo on the X are too wide to allow the cargo floor to seat flush when in the sparewell.

Powertrain Plus

Thanks.

From what I can tell with an in-service date of 8/31/06, it might be still eligible for the Powertrain Plus Warranty. I know a dealer out West via Bimmerfest provides great quotes. Im going to give it a shot.

If your vehicle is no longer covered under the BMW
New Vehicle Limited Warranty
(and has less than 80,000
miles and less than seven years from the in service date) at
the time of vehicle enrollment, then your extended coverage
option is
Powertrain Plus. You have the option of choosing
between three different terms of extended protection***:

1-year/12,000 miles
2-years/24,000 miles
3-years/36,000 miles
