Did a few things today. || Update on Valve seals smoke problem

Hey guys, many of you have said that using a 5-40 / 10-40 oil will help with the smoking at idle, smoking on extended idle issue. I know its Valve seals but as someone on here tried Mobil 1 High milage 10-40 and he said it helped alo so i decided to try.

I dont live in a cold place and most likley the oil will be changed again before winter.

So heres the result: IT kinda WORKED, well its muuuuch better and the smoke was cut down about 1/2 or 2/3 of how it was before. I can live with it.

This is the oil i used, i got it at walmart 50$ for both as opposed to advance 70+, and they didnt have the big jug either just the little bottles which were 9$ a piece.

Heres a video:

Questions: How far is it safe to go? is it safe to maybe try x-50 oil or even the BMW M car recomended 10-60? I feel like it would cut down on smoking but im also afraid it will be to thick.

Well the car is pretty much sold to my friends sister, getting $7500 for it, keeping the 87s, ill return all the normal bulbs, take off the tint and clean it up before i let it go.

Sadly after 2.5 years of owning it and knowing that you can code it to roll the windows back up using the remote i never got the chance to code it. The Autologic at work, i played with it MANY times and never found the option but today I DID!! :) It was just worded very strange like DWE or something, well it works!! So hapy but kinda upset i figured it out 2 weeks before its gone.

Also coded the Acoustic unlock off just visual and kept the Acoustic lock. Easier to be stealthy or not wake anyone up constantly when i forget something in the car
-----------------------------------------------------------
Found the source of the sound in my suspension... My tie rod was loose.... :damn:
Tightened it up and no more noise, i have no idea how it came loose..

How long was it idleing before you hit gas? And was the oil hot(i think normal hot is a little under 210 mark at least on my 4.8is), and coolant at temp?

To be honest id feel 50 max, do they make a 10-50? Or is it just 20-50,

Even better if there was a 10-45. Glad it helped though and it did on mine, i feel like it got better the longer ive been running the oil as now i never see smoke. With the 5-20 it was bad like under 30 sec idle and huge clouds.

Also how many miles on it?

Yeah i drove it down the road a bit and im pretty sure it was hot enough, the coolant temp was up to normal running and it sat in the garage idling for 10-15 minutes before i hit the gas.

Just looked and yes they make 10-50 but its mostly used by the Motorcycles and the BMW Bikes as well.

about 183k miles, ill see if it got any better throughout the week

Give it a week or two and see if the smoke reduces some more. Mine did.

be care with the oil ,it could be that the oil is getting to where it is needed............I blow out my lifters and had to replace the lifter on 1 head.................use Castrol.

10-15 mins?? Dude its fixed in a nutshell haha, who cares if it smokes after idleing that long, i was just worried about it in traffic or stoplights and such cause id sit there for a min pull away and my x is making smoke clouds, not cool.

I didnt even try that long with mine, as long as mine isnt smoking in driving situations at lights, traffic etc, its ok for me.

If i look at my cars, its hard for me to even think where im idleing it for more then 5 minutes, let alone 10-15 and all you got was just a little. I should have made a video of how huge the clouds were when i had 5w-20, you could probably kill someone behind you if they had their windows down LOL.

No no the 10-15 minutes its just the "test" procedure i like to do, i have been smoking after ~5 mins in traffic when i had 5-30. i just havent been able to drive it in traffic just yet, but i will update on that as well

Yeah but what im saying is if thats all you got with the 10-15 min test procedure then its really good,

I was getting at if i idled my car hot in my driveway for even 1-2min with 5-20 or 30 it would be a ton of smoke.
