Only if I would have known about this DIY few months ago... I recently upgraded to E46 M3 steering wheel (standard, not SMG). :( Paddle shifter mod would have been something I would have enjoyed. Not sure if you can modify and add shifter to standard wheel.

My basic question is, do 611 and 696 attach to one another (assuming you put the right pins in them)? I see in the photo they attach to the connecters already in your car.

My issue is that I have 696 in my car (attached to the bottom of the DSC button). I want to make a Y-Harness that would allow me to connect, say, two DSC buttons (one to be used for another purpose) to some of the wires in that 696 connector. If I disconnect 696 from the DSC button, will 611 mate up/connect to it?

That wasn't basic or simple.

Sorry to revive and old thread - but it's new to me! I'm about to do this mod and want to clarify something, if possible.

The purpose of the new wiring harness with the green connectors is to splice in the wires going to the SWSU and connect the shift paddles to the car's electrical system, correct?

Which two wires are spliced into?

Is there any reason why I couldn't just splice into the wires in the OEM connectors directly and not build the new harness? Or does the harness serve another purpose that I'm missing?

The harness just taps into the upshift / downshift connections, while bridging the other power and ground wires.

It's more like an OEM like feel without cutting any wires. You can simply use wire taps if desired.
