Best baby car seat for e53
 

Hi all, been a while since I posted, now you know why... Kristen and I got married and we're having twin boys!
These are our first kids so we know nothing...
All you parents out there what car seats seem to work best on the X5 or does it really matter? We also have to get a double carriage. We want to get the one that has a front and back seat instead of side by side but it looks like it won't fit in the back of X5 with the seats up... What you guys think?

back in time we used Britax for the babyseats for older kids, as supposedly Britax seats are tested to higher speed limits than the other ones... Check this info, as this could be an urban legend...

We did not have twins, but I would suggest parallel carriage, so the kids do not get upset that you favor one over the other one... if one were older (not by minutes, but months/years) than the other, in that case the staggered setup is ok... for twins, gotta be equal... lol...
you might want to check into the ones that offer the carry-on seat that snaps onto the carriage, they call it "transportation system" or something like that... kids are simply growing from one module to the next. you have the base "permanently" set up in the rear, and the carry on moves from base to carriage.

Your X should have LATCH system, was standard from 2002 model on... allows anchoring the seats to the rear seat in no time...

Yea that transportation system is the thing we want to get... we're thinking 4 bases and two seats so we can use ether the X5 or the 330i. We looked at the side by side and they look like they would fit better in the X5 but they won't fit through a lot of doors... we watched some lady struggling to get hers through the door to Chipotle.

I used the Chicco seats with the key fit. We also used the BOB stroller. I know they make a twin version, not sure if they have the same attachments as the single. I had to buy a snap in bracket for the car seat to click into the stroller. It worked very well.

I now have a second baby. A 3 week old. Oh yeah forgot to mention that. Anyway, Cybex is the shit as far as car seats go. All the American made ones have expiration dates, Cybex doesn't, so you can't buy it in America, so your best bet is Ebay.de.

I got the Cybex for my X5, and plan on getting another once my second infant is old enough to sit in it. Look at their site, look at some videos, it blows all the other car seats out of the water. Just seeing how the restraint system works is brilliant.

Oh and swapping these car seats between cars is stupid easy. They have a rigid latch system. So none of that belt tugging bullshit while sitting in the car seat. Also much easier on the leather. Literally takes 30 seconds to switch from car to car. I will never buy another car seat after this one. And I personally own 4, since I had to supply the grandparents one as well. Now they will need two car seats each, and unfortunately, I can only afford Cybex glory for my own car.

I forgot the stroller I got, but its the one in front of the other. I think its a Chico something. It folds up nice an all, but you need to take off a few things before it will lay flat in the trunk. This makes it a huge pain in the ass. Thank god it doesn't have any screws, and I think it was made to be disassembled a bit. The side by side ones, even though I see them around, they are not city friendly. If you plan to walk to stores and such with your kids, plan ahead, they won't go through most doors.

Oh and congrats. Start getting ready for some serious eye burn. Babies don't like sleeping when you do.

We've had a Chicco KeyFit 30 and the matching stroller for our now 4-month old boy. It has worked just fine, and been about as convenient as you could expect. We have one base for the X and one for my wife's 325i. If we ever need to move the bases, the latch system makes it really easy. When my mom comes down to watch the kid, I can switch the base from my car to hers in about 20 seconds.

The stroller isn't bad. I wish it was a little less unwieldy, but for one of these "travel systems" where the car seat just drops right into the stroller, the Chicco, Britax, Graco, etc. all seem pretty much the same. I'm not sure if they have a "travel system" option that allows two car seats to rest in one stroller. Twins would be fun in some ways, but it certainly adds a lot more complexity to logistical issues like that. Ultimately, it might be easier for you to just get a lighter, side-by-side stroller that isn't integrated with the car seats.

The question for you will be whether you want to spend the money now on two dedicated rear-facing seats, and then buy dedicated forward-facing seats in a year or so. I've seen some nice dual models (start rear-facing then switch to forward-facing), but I've never really done any comparisons since we already had the rear-facing Chicco.

We have the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 convertible car seat. It's really nice as it's lower profile so when other people want to sit back there, they actually can be comfortable. It's front facing so might not be the best bet until your kids are 20lbs..
