sticking windows split rubber trim ? ideas please
 

Hello everyone

Some sap tried to break into the X5 , used a flat head screwdriver to try and prise down the rear window and in the process did some damage to the metal trim and the rubber seal:(

The rubber seal that runs along the length of the top of the window about 5mm wide and sites under the metal trim is split, but split is not visible, you need to prise it down with your finger to see the split, in my wisdom I tried to use silicone sealant to seal the split as such, after 5 mins the rubber portion of the split trim seemed to sag! So I cleaned off silicone with acetone, and have applied a small amount of contact adhesive the brown stuff used stick patches on bicycle tire punctures, seems ok for now but anyone shed some light on the best thing to use to stick rubber seals……? would i have been better off with superglue, or is that not going to flex with the play in the rubber as the trim expands contract under hold cold weather conditions, just to clarify the split is about 1cm long.....thanks
