Tyre Sizes
I have a BMW E53 X5 2004 3.0i Sport with 19 inch rims. I have 285x45x19 tyres on the rear and 255x50x19 tyres on the front.
I have been offered a set of four 285x45x19 tyres at a really great price. is it possible to put these on all four wheels or do I need to stick to the narrow tyres on the front? I think the stock wheels are 9J x 19 ET 48 on the front and 10J x 19 ET 45 on the rear but I have not checked mine yet. |
It will fit the fronts, but won't look right.

285x45 will clear and be fine on the 10" rims. 285x45 on 9" rims will clear but will bulge out past the rim, not good for handling or the tire. 255 is the right size to run on the front. Not a good plan to go wider. If the price is great and you are going to keep your X long enough to wear out two sets of rears, that could be a good plan.

thank you for your replies gentlemen. I may well buy the four tyres and keep them for the rear only.

^That's what I would do if I have storage space.
