How to remove sticky rubber from dash?
 

As the title implies. The PO probably had a GPS base that has a sticky face on the dashboard. He probably lost the plastic part, and now I have the car with this ugly rubber/sponge type base, that is glued solid to the dash. I have no idea how to remove it without ruining the dash.

Any suggestions?

You could try heating it slightly with a hair drier to peel most of it off SLOWLY....something like gunks "goo gone" would take the remaining glue off, but I'm not sure it would be entirely safe to use on the dash without leaving a shiny/rub spot.

Try a very thin edged spatula, eg a fish turner...carefully pry that top plastic/rubber disc off the adhesive bottom. A length of fishing line, guitar string may do the same trick.

Agree with X5SND: Goo Gone or Undu, applied very sparingly and carefully to the circle of left over adhesive. May take a few apps, but less is more with each app. Peel off and wipe clean. If careful/lucky, your pebbled look dash pattern should remain intact and hopefully not darker than sun struck dash.

OK, thanks guys. I will try the hairdryer & stuff..

Try using a little heat and then gently saw through the adhesive with some dental floss or fishing line.

Outright prying with a spatula may pull the rubber off of the dash.

hairdryer, patience and fingernail, its probably going to come off very slowly and in pieces just like when you debadge a car, the only problem is the textured dash is harder to get "completely clean" than say your paint.

Once you have the residues left, Goo Gone or WD40 on a rag will help, again some heat will help loosen the adhesive. Once you have it all the way gone, any "ghosting" or different coloration to the dash can be corrected with a non-caustic dash cleaner.

I use Einzsett Deep Plastic Cleaner for cleaning of dash, interior, leather seats etc, this should finish up to give you a nice even finish to the dash. Then I use Einzsett Cockpit afterwards as a dash protectant, the combo should have everything looking great after you get the adhesive out of there!

Rubbing alcohol would work too that's how I get the warning stickers off the sun visors

Another vote here for mild heat, a stiff but non-metal scraper of some kind, and patience. Another thing that I find is helpful in getting old adhesive off is new adhesive; once you've got most of the stuff off, take a chunk of duct tape or packing tape and apply it lightly over the area then peel it off. Often the top of the adhesive will cling better to the tape than the surface and it'll come right off, if in chunks. Repeat as many times as it takes.

If all else fails and you end up making a mess on the dash, then go a buy a GPS and mount it back over the mark! Anything is better than a blemish on the dash...
