What, is this a Toyota?????

My wife started my E 53 3.0 selected reverse and the X took off, fortunately she had her foot on the brake and got it stopped, into Park, and turned off. Restart was ok. Also did it in drive when leaving home but not as bad, she kept going. Only recent change was tuning off "drive away locking" with obd II. Car was cold, not warmed up, service engine code for thermostat stuck open, which was also cleared with obd II. I drove it when she ran screaming from the car upon her return. Drove fine for me, but that's a scary situation.
Anyone heard of this one?
Thanks

Don't know about your wife's experience, but this is often caused by either pedal confusion, or a trapped floor mat interfering with the accelerator.

Thanks for calling, doubt if the WeatherTech's will move, but no recurrence so far.

any misfires???

A friend of mine just picked up an 08 M3 and had his weather tech floor mat get a hold of his clutch pedal a couple of times. It caused some really severe lurching. He popped the anchors in the floor for the mats and its okay now.

Thanks, I'll do that. That's what my wife suspects so that will assuage her anxieties

No misfires, car really is right side up (oops). My E32 used to surge when the throttle body plate got carboned up.

Might be a sticky throttle cable/spring

Tanks, I'll be lining that this weekend. Hopefully being an Aussie is considered a good thing. I just scare my grandkids with that look if they leave my X dirty,.

Where is the throttle cable? Drive by wire system.

Haha, just about to say that. Gonna be a hell of a time finding that phantom wire/cable.

But if you are under there anyways, take the TB out and clean it. It will kill some time.
