Climate contol

Has anybody repaired the climate control ? Or does it always have to replaced as a whole?

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Automatic air conditioning control

What's happening is the AC temp feels the same (always cold) at all times even if the set temp is at 32'C! Compressor never stops running too!

Thanks!

Does this happen even when the AC button's (snow flake button) green LED is NOT illuminated? The AC button should turn the compressor on/off when the ambient temps are above 5°C.

Also, the Stratified Air Dial (in the middle of the dash's center vent) can also temper the air from the system...make sure it's in the neutral setting and not turned all the way into the blue setting.

(AC button (snowflake) is 2nd button down on right side)

Thanks for the reply.

Compressor is off (not cold) when AC button LED is off.

Even when the dial is all the way to the warm (3 dots), air is cold!

Have you ruled out a thermostat that's stuck open (which can cause a no-heat situation due to the engine not being able to reach normal operating temps)...as well as low coolant which can also cause a no heat situation?

I only ask because ruling out these possibilities is less expensive then purchasing a new IHKA control unit. :)

I thought the thermostat is in the control unit :D

:dunno:

Why would you need heat in UAE??? is it not warm there all year 'round???

dhyrk3 05-29-2013 11:01 AM

That's untrue! :D we get at least 2 months of 10-15'C in a year ! 7 months of 40-50'C temp and the rest is just alright.

My post is just a part of another problem. I thought the sensor that tells the system that the interior temp is at the set temp already is in the control unit.

Sorry...I was referring to the "mechanical" thermostat for the engine coolant that is near the engine's water pump (see #7 in the diagram below)...not the electronic thermistor inside the IHKA control panel...or the electronic coolant temp switch (#4 in diagram below).

Are you having any issues with the engine not coming up to normal operating temps? If you've unlocked your OBC, you can run TEST 7 and get a reading of the engine coolant temp. The screen will read KTMP: _ _ ° C. I think the normal operating temp range for the N62 V8 is usually between 101°C - 103°C.

Engine coolant temp seems to be fine by just referring to the dial in the cluster - just right in the middle. Will double check using the OBC.

Reviving this thread now that it is already cold ...
It is 13'C in the morning and it would be convenient to have a nice warm air blowing inside. At least the heated seats help.

Note that the AC is still working fine ...

While the set temperature is set at 32'C, AC button OFF, recirculated air and in AUTO, i observed the values in INPA and ... :

- Engine coolant temp is playing around 99'C
- Outdoor temp - 24'C
- Indoor temp - 26'C
- Heat exchange sensor - 26'C
- Water valves - OFF at all times
- Aux water pump - ON at all times

I thought "The water valve opening times are 0 ms at max. COLD and 3600 ms at max. WARM."

Are the water valves normally open?
