Joined the 4.6 club:
Just saying hi:
Decided some time ago that I wanted a 4.6 (it was either that or a Cayenne GTS- in the end, the Porsche lost on looks, interior and price) After lurking for many months, reading, researching, and driving every 4.6 I could find, one kinda fell in my lap- '03, 64K miles, Dinan supercharger, cold air intake, strut brace, exhaust & chip. Bought it from a dealer, don't think they quite knew what they had. Drove it 700 miles home last week, runs stupidly strong. I previously had a stage 3 B5 Audi S4, and this car is every bit as fast. The mileage, well...nobody wants it for it's fuel economy. Had a "post purchase" inspection- other than needing a new battery and a tail light bulb, even the tech was shocked at how clean the car was. Cherry, inside and out. As far as I have found, everything works, too (Literally EVERY other car I drove had something that didn't work- central locking, air susp, window motor, etc.) Oh, I need floor mats. Yeah. Look forward to the collective expertise of the forum as I get to know this car. http://www.schwaggen.com/Bimmer.jpg |
VERY nice! Interesting to see the 168s on the car instead of the style 87s.
Dinan SC 4.6is' are incredibly rare. I can't imagine more than 30 or 40 of them were ever installed. I have no proof to back that up. The 4.6 is a beast... enjoy it! Start learning about the trouble areas before you have a major problem! |
OMG what a find, Dinan SC! Low miles! Oh my, you are lucky.
Those aren't 168s, I think Type 177? But don't quote me, I know Big "J" runs those on his Imola 4.8is, great looking wheels! |
Nice work!

Very nice find, even with ONLY one pic teaser ;)

And like tmv said above, maybe we can get more than 1 picture???? |
Thanks guys- I'm loving it so far- Sounds like a really angry muscle car, runs like one, too.
I love the wheels, too- It was a nice surprise to find one without the standard 4.6 five-spokes (or cheesy aftermarket stuff, which seemed to be the only two options on the cars I had seen previously) I'll post more pics as soon as I get a chance to wash it- been pissing down rain here for a week, so it's filthy - I had forgotten how much work a black car was to keep clean. |
From one Dinan S/C 4.6'er to another... Hi! Welcome to the forum!
Afaik, you have 1 of 27. :) |
Um.
Where is the engine bay picture? :) |

However that would entail me dropping more coin than the X is worth, so it is just daydreaming until I win the lottery... OP we need updated pics and engine bay shot (a video would be nice too) |

It would be "X5M, here I come" |

Although the E70 X5M is beautiful and an absolute beast, I don't know, the newer cars really just don't have the "soul" of the E53 in my opinion. Add to the fact that I am so reluctant to give up my manual trans (I know I am missing 2 cylinders but I've never driven an auto in my life), a S/C'ed manual 3.0 would be perfection for me. Much more soul than an E70, and plus I'd hate to leave this dedicated E53 forum! So many comrades/friends made over the past couple years, I wouldn't be able to leave! Literally if I came into a lot of money I would just respray my car, do the 4.6is kit, ESS supercharger, changed diffs, basically make a 4.6is supercharged conversion out of a manual 3.0, and put the money into it to make it 100% perfect, if I had to strengthen internals of the engine, drivetrain etc, so be it. Is it tougher to do such a thing than just go and plop down 90k for an X5M? Sure, but driving something unique is just my cup of tea. |
OK- here are some pics and a little "Soundtrack." I know, my engine cover is missing. Some of the Dinan SCs have a little Dinan box- Mine is nekkid.
