Brake Pad Sensor Connector
Is the brake pad sensor connector the *same* on both the F&R and the only difference is the length of the wire ?
I have aftermarket BB, so for all intents and purposes, I just plan to replace the sensor and *zip tie it* to the side. My pad light has come on, and I'm sure it's just due to age, as the sensor has been zip tied for the last 7 years.... |
you are replacing the brake pads too, right?
|
NO. I have a full set of Brembos.
It's not the pads. There must be a short in the sensor wiring just due to age. My sensors have been zip tied since the Brembos were on. Plenty of life on the pads. I'm going to do a rudimentry google and I'm thinking I'll just replace it with a shorter cable..and not the stock 800/790mm length cable |
Open the box the connector is in, disconnect the sensor, put a plug/cap with a bit of dielectric grease on the remaining end and find some heat shrink with a high shrink ratio (like 4:1) and shrink it. You'll end up with a water-tight seal that you can easily remove if you want to ever plug a sensor back in. It's much neater than tiying Bunches of wire up.

I believe you can't remove the sensor and cap it.
It needs a closed loop - hence it's worn, it goes off. I suppose I could just try using the old one, shorting them together, solder and see if that removed the offending trigger/light |
Oh, I always assumed it was an open circuit until it made contact with the rotor....never really payed close attention to them though!
|
If you disconnect it at the box and reconnect to get past any corrosion cause and the sensor doesn't work replace it. The sensors are the same on both ends other than wire length.

I bit the bullet. Ordered 2 sensors...
I could probably swing it by working the front wheel and turning it to get access. Rear Not. Time is Precious...so if I'm going to pull the wheel out to access, I'd rather have all parts on hand. It wasn't too expensive on the sensors, |
For the knowledgebase, the back connector has a right angle off the connector.
The Front is different, it's *straight* coming out of the box FWIW. I made it *work* and a good 'ole reset and we are back to no cluster lights.. |
