Two problems with my 2005 3.0lt X5
 

Folks, I have a couple one small issue, with my 2005 3.0lt diesel X5.

I can hear a very light squeaky noise coming from the rear left wheel, as the car is moving. I can replicate the noise, by grabbing the roof rack and pulling the body down, it's as if the spring is rubbing somewhere or one of the spring bases is not OK. We just got this car a month or so ago and it didn't had that noise in the beginning. An independent shop told me something about the rear A-arm or something, but I do not know if I can trust the guy, he didn't even asked to listen to the noise. Any ideas?

I have the same problem but on the right side. I was told its my upper control arm bushing luckily it only makes noise when it's cold out

If you're not on air bags, then look at your spring pads. Those can work its way out of position as it ages, causing some of the components to touch.

My $600 squeak is on the right side. It's the lower control arm adjustable bushing - the one that is next to the wheel and used to set the rear wheel camber. The dealer will want about $600 to replace it, not including a wheel alignment. I'm living with mine until the rear wheel camber goes out of spec.

OK, I visited an independent garage, and we diagnosed the problem. It was coming from the upper arms, which have a ball joint at the front arm and an adjustable thingy (pretty technical term), at the rear.

Obviously these joints need to be replaced, but for the time being, we applied a pretty interesting, simple solution. We used a syringe to add some oil inside these joints and the squeaky sound stopped. If it returns, then I am going to replace the joints.

I thought I should let you know, I thought that this solution was very clever.
