Thanks for calling. Yea, I have the same dust boot issue. I'm just gonna put rebuilt's on it. I get a good discount at carquest so I might just use something with low dusting from them. I have had good luck with bavauto's pagid reds. I did a little delicate lubrication so ill see if the one sided dusting and reverse squeal change. Just to keep my partner happy til I change calipers.

As long as you don't introduce air, I wouldn't cycle the abs controller myself. I agree that the new fluid and the old fluid won't mix much, but I would primarily be concerned with the water in the system. The specific gravity is such that the water will go to the lowest point in the system, the calipers (which is why they corrode in the calipers cylinder bores) Flushing brake fluid through the calipers addresses that.

Thanks for your thoughts, JCL. I talked with my mechanic today and he also said that flushing the ABS reservoir isn't high on his priority list but he was happy to do it if I requested. He hasn't seen problems with this module although I do see a fair number of posts about failures on the forums. It may be that many of those cases were because the brake fluid was not flushed on the 2-year schedule that BMW recommends. Or, air, water or other contaminants were introduced to the system by improper bleeding. He told me that he prefers to use the two-person system for flushing because the auto-bleeder devices can fail.

I agree with your mechanic on all counts.
