EWS Module location
Hi
Does anyone know where the EWS module is located on my E53 ? I have been told that it is above / below the steering column, behind the panel containing the OBD Socket - bolted to the dashboard support bracket etc etc. I have removed the lower panel but cannot find the module anywhere  It may well be on the opposite side to most people on here (RHD car ) but any pointers would be welcome ! |
Help us help you better by creating a signature that includes your E53 X5's model/model year/build date. This info helps us to give you specific info/suggestions etc that is for your model. There are many changes through the production years, and slight difference between some of the model/engine/tranny configurations that were used on the e53. You may ask a question that deals with something that is slightly different and by not having any model information...you may receive incorrect information. :)
According to the chart below...it is located on the LEFT side of the vehicle below the dash & nearer to the exterior of the car (not the near the center of the dash): |
Hi Qsilver
Thanks for the reply and the diagram So it should be behind the glove box ? I am unsure because as my car is RHD the box containing the DME and AGS modules is on the left side of the car not the right as shown on the diagram. Steering wheel is on the other side too  Good point about putting the vehicle info in my signature . |

Okay, thanks for the wait...I was finishing off the last piece of crow that I had to eat after looking further into the location of the EWS control module on RHD e53s. After scouring the WDS...it looks like the EWS control module is located in the "driver's footwell...even for the RHD vehicles. See the 2 images below from the WDS...both say that the EWS-CM is in the driver's footwell along the lower section of the A pillar: EWS-CM Location - RHD E53s http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...tion%20RHD.jpg EWS-CM Location - LHD E53s http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...tion%20LHD.jpg |
 LOL . No problem - I have looked in places I shouldn't have to go in the quest for the EWS module
I am away on a short vacation for a few days but will have a look as soon as I return - it actually looks hopeful this time . Thanks for the help ! |
