Radio
Hi all, fairly new to this site and to the X5 but an huge bimmer man nonetheless.
My last one was an 02 745. Now I have a 06 X5 sport 4.4 since late 2011. I've had to deal with the dreaded battery and now just finished a DIY alternator. Life was good after checking my install and all the numbers match up. The issue, no radio, at all, doesn't even show up on screen. I have the dsp version with nav, aux and satellite radio. I have power to the 6disc cd but can't get anything out of the system. The nav still works without voice but Bluetooth and the rest won't show up on the nav screen. I've checked around the site but haven't found what I'm looking for. What am I missing?:dunno: Forgot to add, checked fuse #7 all good. Did have to replace the fuses for the nav unit, I think 73 or 74 and the a/c fuse. |

Update...found the radio module with a blown fuse. Replaced it but still no joy.
Any ideas? Is this system like the MOST system? |

This is the topological chart of the communication bus used in the aforementioned models. You have the bus lines and the control modules...then there are some "gateway" control modules like the IKE (instrument cluster electronics) and the GM which direct not only what they control but they also receive data over the bus lines and pass info from other control modules onto components in their system: |
Thanks for the response! I saw that chart during my endless searches but I'm not the most electronically inclined!
Let me ask you this...today I took everything out, cd changer, nav ect and hooked everything back up. Just prior to that my obc screen had been showing the phone but then it too now is not showing up. If there has been a break in the ibus, is there a way to get it to recognize the radio and dsp again? Like I said in my earlier posts, the nav works though I have no voice nor does the radio controls show up and now the Bluetooth. |
The easiest way would be diagnostic hook up (either thru dealer or if you had the software/hardware that many BMW owners have)...you could then communicate with each module to see if it was online.
I went back to reread if the amp had been checked. If something happened to it...you'd still see the Nav screen illuminate etc...but you'd get no sound. Is there anyone around you that owns an e38 or e39? If so, you could swap in their amp (the e38/e39/e53 use the same amp but it's coded to specifically to each model's interior dimensions & dynamics). The sound will be muddled if the amp comes from a different model than yours...or if the model is an e53 that has different options...but you'd still be able to hear sound. You might also want to check out the navigation forum over on BimBoard: The Navigation A/V Forum . It's a pretty active forum with a lot of really knowledgeable members/posters. |
As far as I know the amp still works but you may be right.
Thanks for your input and I will keep diggin! |
