^That's a million dollars question. ;) :D

I feel like there has got to be a way to force people to fill out their signature or car info in the registration process.

Beisan Systems - Procedures - M62TU Vanos Procedure
your going to probably want to order a kit from these guys. Great write up as well. this looks like a monster repair, are you sure you need? |
My thought is what you "might as well" do the timing chain guides "while you're in there" for the Vanos repair.
|
well i bought the timing chain rePair kit but my mechanic said now he thinks it could be the vanos or the timing chain so i figured i might as well have him fix the vanos too when i bring the 4.4 in to the shoP
|
and jgold i think i have most of those Parts when i ordered the rePair kit for the chain the only thing i didnt get was the Camshaft adjuster unit with pinion, Distribution piece, Gasket Steel for Distribution piece and Sprocket do i need all that and also should i replace Solenoid valve (SOLV)?

What are your symptoms?

i hear this funny knocking noise from the engine i bought a knock sensor on ECS Tuning thinking that would be the fix to the problem and when i brought it to a mechanic he said it sounds like the chains so i ended u buying all the stuff chains and tensioner and all that stuff and when i went to talk to him again and asked him are you sure thats the roblem because i just dumped $1600 on parts and he said oh it might be the Vanos if its not the chains :S
|
I think I'd find a better mechanic before dumping $1600 into parts I might not need.
|
i had 4 different mechanics tell me four different things.. one said my engine was about to go .. the next said i had to rePlace Pullys.. and now i am being told either the timing chain or the vanos

A pre-ignition knock ("pinging") is a very distinctive noise, not one that should be mistaken for a mechanical wear position. If it occurs, it usually happens under a light throttle application/engine load condition, and could be verified with a tank of boosted octane level fuel. Timing chain noise will definitely be sourced at the front of the engine, and would most often be a "tinny" sound as a stretched or non-tensioned chain slaps the guides. A deeper "knock" calls for a check of engine oil pressure before anything else is done.
