Oil recommendations

Been using BMW 5W30 from Bavauto since I got my 3.0. I've always been a 20w50 kinda guy , but want to stay with specs. Book says 15 W40 can be used in warm temps, can't seem to locate any. Anyone have weight and brand experience? 150K

Whew...literally pages and pages of full threads here, on 'what oil/viz to use'.
Search Tab, upper right hand corner, may be worth a few mins of your reading time.

A few of us will offer opins, but the larger crowd via those threads, may offer better solace.

Fwiw, not a fan of 15W-40 or 20W-50, (except in my old Shovelhead HD), unless I was in Phoenix in the summer...

Do some reading and, GL

Anecdotally, I like M1, either 5W-30 or 0W-40, but that's just me.

I've been using Mobil1 5W-30 synthetic on both of the bimmers. I switched to Mobil1 0W-30 since I cane get them at Walmart for $25/5Qt Jug. I see a drop of oil over night, which wasn't there before, on the E53. I'll switch back to 5W-30.

I use 5w-40 Shella Rotella T6 on the E53 year round, 20w-50 or 15w-40 is way too thick viscosity unless you are in Death Valley, in Chicago 5w-30 or 5w-40 is fine.

5w-30. Starts fine at -30 C. The 5w is right for my climate, likely enough for Chicago as well.

If I was towing, in the South West, I would probably go to a 5w-40.

5w30 or 5w40 synthetic for my beast!

Runs strong and no serpent living under the hood :)

5w30 synthetic all year round, even through the many days over 100.

I use the BMW oil. I can get that at $6.25 a quart.
