Don't know what it would cost you to get the X scanned, but you could buy a copy of BMW Scanner 1.4 with the cable on eBay or Amazon for probably a lot less.

Of all the softwares available for scanning a BMW, BMW Scanner 1.4 is probably the easiest to install and get it up and running.

This summer it has completely stopped working due to lack of maintenance. One should service their ac every year as it guarantied the smooth working of system.
