scotchprint/Dinoc color that best approximates handles
Looking for the dinoc/scotchprint color that best looks like the existing door handles in the e53. Basically, I want the titanium interior trim look. Anyone have any experience. I think I will stay away from the carbon fiber look.

Subscribed, I'm in the same boat...

x3.
First of all don't use Dinoc, Scotchprint 1080 is much easier to work with for interior trims, Dinoc was used prior to 1080 being available in as many colors and textures as it is now, Dinoc was not made to be an interior wrapping film, it was actually supposed to be used as architectural film on buildings. Secondly, do you want gloss or matte/satin look to your trims? I know for a fact that G120 Gloss White Aluminum (ignore the name) matches almost perfect to our titan door handles on the pre-facelifts. However, I know that facelift models have a slightly darker graphite door handle, so my findings may not be the same for a 2006. I don't know how keen I am on having a "gloss silver" trim, but I definitely need to get my trims re-wrapped, the wood seriously is killing me and aging my interior immensely. |
^Door handle on prefacelift is silver and it's darker/titanium color in my 4.8iS.
I used 3M Scotchprint Brush Aluminum vinyl to wrap interior trims for a local E39 owner. He has Silver exterior and the wrap match that pretty good. It has a little texture in there, instead of just blain smooth vinyl. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psec591298.jpg In the car http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps9e8883dc.jpg I also used it to wrap the picece on the shift knob of my 4.8iS. That piece is painted some how and look pretty bad. Before with the paint http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psdc1923d4.jpg After with the wrap and in the car. It match 95% to the silver trim I have. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps2a465c96.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psd8cd1ebd.jpg I would use that if the door handle in your X is silver. If it's darker, I would use Brushed Titanium. Material was bought from metrorestyling.com I hope this help somewhat with your choice. |
big time. I was leaning towards dinoc vs scotchprint as my trim has some cracks and I understand DiNoc does a better job of hiding the cracks.
Can anyone confirm? Also, it it your pictures or is that trim really that bright? Perhaps the titanium would be a better choice? |
damn tmv now you make me want to wrap in brushed aluminum! I hear that the aluminum films are harder to wrap though because of the metals in the film, or is that a myth?
|
Also how much should I need to do the whole interior?

Brushed Aluminum trim is bright. What color is your interior? Quote:

Hmmmm Idk I'd ask tmv, vinyl is cheap but I think you could be fine with 10-12 sq ft, get some primer 94 adhesive for the backside of the pieces too (helps the vinyl that you folded over stay put)
|
hmm.. I have a black interior. I want to approximate the look of my e46 which had the silver trim. How visible are the cracks when you wrap?
|
I'd get 15 sq ft minimum (3ftx5ft) Better have some extra than running short, and I don't have much extra. I suggest you get a little more if it's your first time.
The crack IS visible Have a pic of your E46 with said trim? |
Little bit of a tangent...
Since its not the wood that cracks, but merely the clear ontop...has anyone stripped and re cleared them? Personally with my beige lower and black upper dash I like the look of the dark wood much more than any of the wraps I've seen thus far... |
Dinoc is one of the best you can use . It very easy to wrap and cover very wells.
I had done that on mine X5 but in CF. it still on there when i sold it ,no peeling after three years. |
I used 3M Scotchprint 1080 Matte Dark Grey Metallic Vinyl to cover the steering wheel trim.. VERY similar to the accents on the door handles.
Edit: Here's a link to what I used New 3M Scotchprint 1080 Matte Dark Grey Metallic Vinyl Car Wrap 1ft x 1ft Sample | eBay http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6c917bf5.jpg http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/...psbbccff5e.jpg |

There is no metal in the vinyl. it is all vinyl. The vinyl will wrap like any other color. The color or 'look' is a computerized design printed on the vinyl.
