Thoughts/Opinions.. 2 X5's, possibly 3?

So.. Been on the site for awhile, never posted but not new to BMW's. Have been a Bimmerforums/Bimmerfest/BMWCCA member for over 10 years. Have owned just as many BMW's, to the dismay of the wifey!! lol.. Anyhoo, I am considering 2 X5's details below.
  • 2002 X5, 4.4i; 75K miles; Gry/Blk; Fully optioned except for NAV - $11K at a Dealer
  • 2004 X5, 4.4i, 100K miles; Blue(Topaz?)/Blk; Fully optioned except for NAV - $12K at a dealer
  • Just to add :D... 2002 X5, 4.6i, 100K miles; Blue?/Gry/Blk (Cloth/Leather); Fully optioned - $13K at a dealer

So, all things considered, PPI, etc., which one?

I do realize that the newer engine N62, has better gas mileage ~100 miles more hwy and better city? Of course the updated headlights, hood, fenders, Pano roof... And the 4.6is is rare, etc....

Thoughts/Opinions appreciated.. :)

No question there, get the 4.6

I try not to fixate on any particular car before the PPI.

$13k for the Estoril blue on cloth 4.6 is a nice price, assuming all checks out.

Rather than pick between 3 X5s at one dealer, I would narrow down what type of X5 you want and then do a regional or even nationwide search to find the best example.

If you are concerned with MPG the 4.6 will be the least. Other than that it offers the most fun and performance and likely has most of the options available that year.

I agree with epdarks, I would do a regional search. You should find many more to choose from in or near Atlanta.

Among those 3, I'd get the 4.6iS

4.6is hands down if it checks out with PPI

What are you going to do with the X5? Are you going to tow with it? I'd get the 6speed trans over the 5 speed in the 4.6 then. Otherwise, the 4.6 is more interesting, if it has been maintained.

Expect to put some $ into any of these.

Good luck!

if your concern is MPG - run away from the 4.6...
if you are after fun - run to the 4.6...

all 3 will call for maintenance items... 4.6 will have more standard features that are options on the other ones... which means, less retrofitting... assuming that all 3 are checking out the same on the records, PPI...

i am partial, so my opinion is very biased... you have to decide what you want out of the car, and write down the (+) and (-) and take it from there...

Deep down inside, you know what to do. :)

Thanks guys for the replies! I will not be towing anything so not of concern there. But as mentioned, I will broaden my search beyond the metro Atlanta area. I have been burned before with purchases out-of-state, so little nervous.

The 4.6is seems nice have to check it out. All 3 are at different dealers. There was another from a Private party which I prefer - last few BMW purchases were as such. The private party ones were a nice 2005 Imola Red (?) 4.4i.. That is definitely worth a look. Will keep you guys posted :)
