style 87 rims
i bought style 87 rims off CL but two of the rims were bent causing lot of vibration at high speeds.I took them off my X5 and ordered reconditioned oem rims from LKQ or so I thought. they gave me brand new replicas instead without even informing me . I realized they were replicas when I didnt see any BMW markings on them. I have option to return them but at this point, i may just keep them.
I weighed them yesterday , they were around 21 lbs. OE style 87 rims are around 31 lbs. I know I can gain a few horse powers by using lighter rims, but are these safe? any suggestions ? thanks you in anticipation |
So you're saying they are lighter than OEM?
I ran replicas wheels on some cars before without issue. |

yes....if OE rims are infact 31 lbs....i dont know this for sure.. |
Rep will marked BWM instead of BMW

Just found this Felgen-Katalog - BMW-Treff - der Treffpunkt fr alle BMW-Fans und -Fahrer with all the Bmw specs, including weights...dont know how reliable it is ,but its a reference:(
They have style 87s front 9.5 x20 at 26 Lbs and the rear 10.5 at 31 Lbs Site displays in kgs,to convert to Lbs,just * by 2.204 :) |
yes... that seems to be the concensus....usually after market rims are heavier....LKQ may have better technology than BMW? thanks for helping with the conversion there!

If the rims are the same design front and back the only way to make the rims lighter and still have the OEM strength would be a harder alloy. I expect BMW would build the rims stronger than needed. I wouldn't expect the alloy on the lighter wheels to be a stronger alloy. I would be more concerned with the rear rims that are wider. That doesn't mean there will be any problems at all but---- Would be good to hear from others that have similar rims.

I have seen other BMW rep wheels to not hold up well under daily use as they are lighter they are subject to damage easier and quicker than OEM. Not saying this will be the same case for this wheel but my experience has been with the Style 65 reps not holding up. GL

I have no problem with mine reps style 87 on my X5 for the last ten years before I sold the car. 170k miles on the reps 87s.
