electrical issue... Resolved

Hello everyone
i had to change my car battery today
After the new battery was installed the car starts and runs fine....BUT nothing works of what is supposed to before you start the car.....
Central locking
Alarm
Open trunk
Self leveling suspension
keyless entry
...etc...
Please help
I already checked a couple of the basic fuses...like for the self leveling suspension and central locking and they look good..I cannot check anything else now cause i live in beautiful Arizona and its 110.... i cannot even touch the dashboard when i look inside the glove compartment so i ll have to wake up at 5am and do that
is there a main fuse????
should i just reset everything by unplugging the battery again? will do in the am?
will anycodes dissapear and the car wont start if everything is reset?
Thank you in Advance

If you used the right battery, try disconnecting and leaving off and then reconnect. Sometimes the bus gets wonky when you change the battery.

there are also fuses in the trunk, in the right pocket in the rear right quarter of the car... check all the fuses there as well, from what you are saying, it looks like the EWS, DWA may have lost the power...

try to identify precisely what is not working, as you mentioned SLS and the "etc"... the SLS is secondary fault to many other faults... so it is not indicative of direct fault with SLS... the "etc" worries me - what else does not work?

since you posted in E53 forum, i would say you have E53...

can you be more specific? month/year of production... model... mileage... any mods that had been done to the car... to avoid these stupid questions, you may consider creating a permanent signature line with some of the basic info... it will help us to taylor the help...

2001 4,4 x5 e53 m62
no mods
already checked all fuses in trunk they all look good... couldnt check the ones in the glove compartment..but i will tomorrow morning,,, how do i reset the modules you said? is there a main fuse somewhere other than glove and right side of trunk? also checked the fuses behind the spare tire,,,mini200 amp etc

TerminatorX5 07-08-2013 11:50 PM

the 200 A fuse is one of the main fuses... there is also an E-box in the engine compartment, on the right side next to firewall, behind the windshield washer canister - that one mostly has relays but i think it also has a couple of fuses... they relate to the engine management...

one of the ways to "reset" the car is to disconnect the battery for at least half an hour, as there numerous countdown timers, the main shuts off the modules after 16 minutes but some also have additional a minute or two after the main sleep signal... when the battery is disconnected, you may touch the DISCONNECTED (+) lead to GROUND, it will ensure that there is same potential on both ends of the main leads... This procedure by itself does NOT reset anything, it is just a old practice from the electronic bench repairs, to reassure that there is no floating voltage or potentials in the system...

when you reconnect the battery, see if the all the original problems are still there, if there any new problems or if the problems shifted - old ones are gone, some new appeared...
these cars are way too sensitive to the voltages...

well
I disconected the battery for 45 min...and checked every single fuse in the car... the ones in the trunk , in the glove compartment and behind the firewall they all look good... but the problem is still there
the following are not operational
OBD port
Central locking
Alarm
Open trunk
Self leveling suspension
keyless entry
cabin lights
windows do work but the auto feature doesnt(????)

Is there a module that control these features??
I cannot even hook up a scanner cause the OBD port doesnt have power either
What else should i check/DO?
:dunno:

GM module controls some of those functions... before considering the GM fried, maybe something else can be done...

also, it feels that you might have a hall sensor in the driver's door malfunctioning - or, some other circuit in the driver's door... some of the symptoms support that theory... was there anything done to the driver's door, any recent work, any impact, maybe you noticed something prior to this epic failure?

i can't open the WDS diagrams at work to see the details, only once i am home...

maybe meanwhile somebody else can look into the issue...

I checked everyfuse one by one
the OBD fuse in the glove compartment ....5 amps caused all of those failures

Thank you guys
