Exploring seat memory option for passenger side
Hello
I am just testing the waters here, and probably will NOT do this "upgrade" but still would like to explore the possibilities... In my car i have a driver's seat (left side if you are sitting in the car) that has electric adjustments and 3 position memory module (option code S459A) on the passenger side, there is electric adjustment but there is NO memory on that side. in the RealOEM the parts listed for this setup are 52108245383 for the left upto 03/2002 and 52108245384 for the right upto 03/2002 and both are discontinued the new part numbers are 61304318615 for the left, and 61304318624 for the right The theory is, if one would take a memory module for the Right Hand Drive car (such as in UK, Australia, etc...) from the driver's seat (which is on the right side of the car as you sit in it) and fit it in place of the electronic adjuster on the passenger seat on the Left Hand Drive car (the seat is still in the same location, but this time it is passenger's seat), there might be functional memory option for the passenger's seat, just like for the driver. However, the parts listed in the RealOEM for the RHD cars are the SAME part numbers listed for the LHD. this makes it impossible to order the parts and see if they work... This theory is a long stretch, as the seat memory module is probably on the ibus, and two modules might be conflicting with each other, there might be different pinouts for the left and right modules (besides obvious extra pins for the lights for the "M" (memory) button and the iBus), but... but, as a brain excercise to a possibility, i thought i'd try to explore it... any thoughts?... suggestions?... |
Replace the seat with a manual seat like on my sport package X. Problem solved. Not only that one less thing to break and think of the weight saving.

the goal is not to reduce the number of options but rather to increase them - i like gadgets, not into racing, so weight reduction does not matter to me as much, even though it still saves on the gas... with 4.8iS, i am far from saving anything on the gas... lol...:nanana: |
My first assumption would be that it could work if...you got the PM-SM (power module-seat module) w/memory for the right side (just as you supposed)...but you'd also need to change the door switchblock module, too.
I don't think the data being sent/received over which ever communication bus it would travel...would get confused...because there's multiple data already being sent all over the vehicle...so each module probably has some type of indentification marker. The seat memory is controlled thru the driver's door switchblock module, so you'd probably need to order the correct RHD (driver's) door module for the seat memory to function. This diagram's illustration is more for the e38/e39...but the e53 is set-up similarly: http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20Diagram.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...Module%201.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...ory%202%20.jpg |
