Engine deterioration light.........

Engine - N62 4.4l from an 04.

I had to replace the left bank Cam cover and because they don't mount the ccv on the cover anymore I needed to replace the 4 way vent tube with the two piece updated version.

Now after I've done that after driving about 20 minutes I've got the Check Engine Light has come up on the dash and it's not clearing.......

On a better note the smoke at extended idle seems to be gone/not as bad

Is there a software update required for the ECU because of the hardware change?

Engine Deterioration light? I am assuming you mean just the check engine light, right?

Bulk 07-28-2013 07:26 PM

Yeah, exactly...... The manual says "Engine Deterioration light" so I quoted that.

TwinTurboGTR 07-28-2013 07:27 PM

Gotcha. I should have phrased everything in one post but, have you checked the code and if so... What is the code?

mrbmwx5 07-28-2013 11:19 PM

Double check the vacuum lines and hoses.

There was a slight vacuum leak initially - rookie mistake however I've fixed that up now. I don't have a code reader, I had the laptop set up but it got busted in my recent move so not sure about any codes that are being thrown. However it is running smoothly so I guess I'll just have to live with the check engine light until I can organise another laptop.

Anyone recommend the Peake Scan Tool?

TerminatorX5 07-29-2013 07:36 PM

Peake is like using a typewriter to type a letter - why use a typewriter, when you can use a computer... wait.. you can use that computer to read the codes too...

well... i'd say, go for DIS, INPA, GT1 - go for a computer

If you can't read codes than I suggest you go somewhere and have them read. Could be something that doesn't need urgent attention but could be something you need to do right away so it doesn't lead to bigger problems.

I have a Peake scan tool and a tool for clearing airbag fault. I just received INPA software so that I can read codes the Peake tool does not cover. The Peake tool has worked well for some issues but there have been several times I went to the dealer to diagnose the problem so I didn't start throwing parts at it and hope.

Thanks guys. I think I'll get myself a cheap laptop and get the diag going again
