Is it worth doing?

Hello guys once again. I wanna ask for your opinions. I've got X5 4.4 2006 year, black on black, but the roof is grey but as all the car is the roof is in best condition. I just want to black it out with alcantara maybe or factory cloth, but my dad says they cannot do it as they do in factory... I know that, just wanted the interior all in black... I'll keep this car for about 1-2 year,so I don't know if it's worth it.. Had before E46 330 ZHP,it had factory black interior, kinda cool... So,any advices please ? thanks in advance

If you dont plan on staying with the car and only have it for 1-2 years, im sure youll probably forget about it in a week and wontmind it.

I personally dont like grey roofs as well and would love to have it black too.

Youd have to get new headliner (or material and glue) , a pilllars, other plastics B,C. Is the plastic garage door opener/ loghts/sunglass holder gray as well? then youd need to make it black too..

By roof are you talking about headliner? In which case it shouldnt be too tricky to do. Buy some alcantara and some 3m take the headline liner off and get to work.

yeah i'm talking about headliner... not sure for how long i will keep this car,but I reaaallyy like it,maybe this one will last 3-4 years for me,cause I'm changing cars almost everg year, but now really not sure what to take after this one,so maybe it will stay with me for several years... can't decide what to do

p.s by the way,all plastics will be painted in black,it's not a problem

so anyone also, what should I do?

I believe an anthracite color headliner was a trim option for X5s. You could go the OEM route and order the trim pieces in that color. But again that might get expensive. I'd think a black headliner looks much more sporty. I had a '82 Volvo 240 Turbo that had a molded black fiberglass headliner in a tan leather interior and I thought that it really added a distinct "European Sport" feel.

I wouldn't do it if I plan on keeping it for 1-2 years only.

Anthracite headliner was standard equipment on all sport package equipped e53 and all iS models (I have it on mine)

Unless you love ripping most of the upper part of your interior out, I don't think it's a mod worth doing if you are selling the car in a year or two.

and what is a problem if I keep it for 2 years? :) just don't understand....

I would talk to a custom interior shop to see if it can be sprayed or wiped with die.

There are sprays and wipe on dies for carpets. I have used the wipe on to make black carpet look like new and even smell new. I would think the shorter nap on the headliner would make it easier to die though gravity would working against you.

It would be nice to test it on something but that's the reason to pick the main brains at a custom shop, to see if it can be done and if it takes a professional to do it right.
