Engine noise - Solved
Hello,
I have question regarding engine noise. Recently I am observing some noise coming from Engine. Not very loud though. When AC is on, this noise increases. My car: BMW X5 E53 2002 3.0i Euro model, milage: 144,000 KMs I have question regarding timing belt. I know these models have chain timing belt. Any idea about these noise? How long is these chain timing belt lasts or need replacement. I mean KMs? |
Can you post a youtube video so we can hear the sound?

Could be idler wheel or tensioner that when the AC compressor kicks in it places additional load on the wheels or tensioner.
Remove the fan belt and see if the noise is still there. Like the fluid in the trans, the timing chain is lifetime, no maintenance or replacement necessary for the life of the truck. :D :bustingup |

If you see water on the floor of the truck then the condensate line is blocked. If you see water on the pavement under the truck that is normal for a working ac. |
AC oozing water - it is condensation of the water from the ambient air, the more humidity in the air, more water will accumulate on colder surface... take a bottle of Coca-Cola from a refrigirator, and set it on a table - you will see the bottle sweat... that is the water from the air accumulating on the colder surface and if is super humid, you will see a lot of water, until the temperature of the surface equalizes to the ambient... the AC does not produce water, it is a sealed system, and all the water that is dripping - water from the outside air...
that is from my school's physics class - unless somebody points out that i am wrong, i think this is the case with water... engine noise - is it clunk-clunk-clunk, or is it clunk-dang-clunk-ding-ding, or is it trrr-clunk-trrr-ding? or, maybe it is ts-ts-ts-ts-trrrr-ts-ts-ts?... you need to get us a video of the running engine with the sound dude... :) |
