Oil in Spark Plug Chamber

Hi

I recently changed the plugs on my 06 x5 (x53) and noticed some oil on the first two chambers. The plugs towards the front also had oil on them. I cleaned the chambers and installed new plugs and noticed an increase in MPG and acceleration. Since then (3 months) the acceleration has decreased again and I'm worried the chambers have oil again. Is this is head gasket replacement or something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Replace the valve cover gaskets, the o-rings around the plug openings are allowing oil into the plug area.

u need the spark plug tube seals
they cost me 30$ each and I decided to change them all when I did the valve cover, and I changed the cam position sensor orings and the orings for the electric motors

and did the ccv rubbers at the same time

Just changed mine. 7 & 8 were pretty wet. All others bone dry. Put some Right Stuff gasket maker left over from my z motor build. What a pita 8 was to deal with.

Also had fear since they were firmly on coming off, that they would not seat going in.

Car running fine.
