Theres a thread about Splitting them by baking them in oven to soften the glue.

If you have a bumper with headlamp washers then you would have to remove the bumper to take the headlights out. If you dont then you can just wiggle them out.
I wouldnt just paint the headlight from the outside because it just looks terrible.
Taking them apart is the only way im seeing.
I always wanted to do it to mine but i was always afraid of the baking part, and i have headlamp wahers.
Ill just man up i guess and do it sometime soon.

As you own a 2006 then you need to remove the bumper, pull the headlights, buy/use a Dremel to cut open the lights and then use it to cut out the amber plastic bits. Then you stick/seal the headlights back together, reinstall the lights and bumper and you are all done.

Search all threads start by mrbmwx5 and you will find a thread on how he open the facelift headlights with baking method. Or just use the dremel method as zulu95 suggested. I have the dremel tool if you want to be a Guinea Pig.

He doesn't know how to hunt the lions.
That's why I never mention how to open the headlights.;)

Dont give up yet!Ignore the off topic, sarcastic comments ,because there are quite a lot of helpful members here:thumbup:I have opened a few but only 2001-03.The latter you will need to cut with a dremel but if you take your time an dbe patient, you will be compensated!Dont be afraid to cut it,because you can glue back on and the part you glue will be covered up anyway by the rubber sealant

Take a look at this link and send TwinsPoppa a PM and hopefully he will point you out in the right direction;)
