Q about rear handle cover?

Would the rear left door handle cover fit in place of the driver door keyhole cover?

I'd like to cover the driver door keyhole for security and cleaner look without loosing the functionality of the lock by removing it. I just want to conceal it.

I don't want to try to pry the rear and test it because of risk of breaking the tabs which I did to the front during a door carrier repair job. Now that I look at this job, the cover doesn't even need to come off as the procedure states which minimizes the risk of breaking the tabs. Or you can slide the lock out with the cover on it, then remove it with tabs visible for easier removal if you want the cover off.

Back to the Q, would it fit? Thx

Just go to ebay uk and see if anyone is selling a cover for the front passenger side door. Their passenger door is on the left side of the vehicle since they drive on the right side of the vehicle.

If you pull up that cover in the parts database...you'll see that the cover for the rear & front doors have the same part nbrs. So yes, if you can find a used rear door's cover (in the correct color) you can use that part in your mod.

Or you could go to your local BMW dealership and order #14 (you have multiple choices...primed/Titan/Schwarz/paint-code)...you can use the Euro side of the part database (use RHD) to get the part nbr for the front door...or you can use the part nbr for the rear left door (either side of the the part database). Just for verification, once you have the part you want...run it through the part nbr search and you should see that it appears for the front & rear door (again, make sure you select the EURO check box so that the front door appears in your search):

...yep...don't forget that it's "primed" & "painted" ;) :D

I wonder if you would come off cheaper buying the least expensive $14 Schwarz piece, and having it primed and color-matched by a local body shop?

The price variance does seem really ridiculous for the slight difference in prep & finish for such a small item...if you had a Jet Black (non-metallic) X5...you probably could get-a-way with buying the part in Schwarz.
  • $14.07 - Schwarz
  • $30.30 - Titan
  • $31.75 - primed
  • $95.95 - painted (code)
